How to Treat Lice or Mites on Quail

If you notice lice or mites on your quail, you need to act quickly. In this video, I discuss a few methods for how to treat lice in your quail. My preferred method is with a Permethrin spray. Below is a link to a premade spray that is ready to use but you can also buy it at a local farm supply store in a concentrate and mix it yourself.

    Hey Chris, love your videos! You have inspired me to start urban homesteading. I recently grew out 6 pullets for eggs, I now have 4 meat rabbits( 3New Zealand whites and 1 NZ black) 2 bucks and 2 does all have their own space, also started raising quail. Thank you for all your time and effort put into educating all of us!

    You just made my day buddy!! I woke up this morning to 6 quail chicks and 94 more to go! Today is hatch day for me first time hatching quail eggs! And i was inspired by you and I've learned almost everything I know about quail from you! I just wanted to take the time to thank you so much for what you do! Video was great I'm gonna try the spray because I still see a flea or two here and there but nothing like they was when I got them but I'd love to have a 1 on 1 conversation with you about the quail if possible! Thanks again!!😁👍🏼👍🏼

    Thanks for this video, Chris. My quail are on the ground at the moment, so I had been wondering myself about the best way to treat quail if a mite/lice problem develops.

    I have done videos on cleaning the incubator out. just to simplify it for you though, just wash it out with soap and water. You can use a light bleach spray to disinfect it (just rinse it out well after) or just set it out in the sun for a day or two. I hope that helps.

    I'm going to need to fix the doors on my quail cage to how you have yours hinged so they open down. My doors open to the side and when I go to feed them they push each other out the door onto the ground. I put their feed bowl on the ground and pick them back up as they eat.

    That is a fairly effective cleaner and can help with warding off mites. I am not sure it would be that effective in treating an infestation though. But I might be wrong. Nothing wrong with trying that method first though.

  • @Slightlyrednecked

    It has some health benefits for sure but it isn't as magical as what people make it out to be. it isn't bad to add a little to the water but I don't bother with it myself. it won't really do anything for parasites or mites/lice though.

    I don't think that mosquitoes are a big problem with quail really. They can carry parasites but I have never found it to be an issue. There are some commercially made products that are meant to reduce mosquito populations. Mosquito Eradicator is one that gets really good reviews so that maybe something to look into.

    What’s a good remedy for mites in rabbits ears?

  • @Slightlyrednecked

    @Slightlyrednecked

    4 жыл бұрын

    Ear mites are actually really easy to treat. Just put a few drops of olive oil (or any food grade oil) in the rabbits ear once a day for about a week, or until all the scabs clear up. Don't clean out the scabs or anything, they will clear up on their own. I hope that helps.

  • @Slightlyrednecked

    Sounds like they might be molting. They tend to stop laying while they are molting. Also, with the days getting shorter, unless you have some external lights to keep them at about 14 hours a day of light, they will slow down or stop laying. I hope that helps.

    mine have a coop in a 20 ft dog run and birds were flying all around,a t one point would get in and eat seeds, I wonder if they got it from stuff falling from the trees and birds getting in. I blocked it off but 2 of the birds died, a bunch of others formed scaly eyes and needed antibiotic eye drops.
