My husband and I plan to retire to France in 2 years. I know we could get a retirement visa, but I have been a costume designer (theater, film and television) for 46 years. The last 18 years have been private clients and theater. I work for a private school in Los Angeles as the staff costumer. While we are retiring, I know for a fact that as soon as word gets around that I am a costume designer, I will get calls from people asking if I could make them a costume or assist in a production. Besides after such a long time, I doubt my move to France would be successful if I just stopped doing what I love. I am not sure what visa I should be applying for. I think the retirement visa might be easy, but I don't think I could accept work (and most work in theater is freelance). I am definitely an artist, I design and build, but I'm not sure how it is viewed in France. I want to choose the visa that gives me the most flexibility. I would be setting up a studio in my home (when we buy one) as I have here in Los Angeles. Help!

@user-vc2gy6is9y a retire visa wouldn't allow you to work. If you want to set up as a costume designer, you would apply for a visa profession liberale as "couturière et costumière". I would definitely look for recommendation letters or letters of intent from your previous customers.

@@StartBusFrance hi mam, I've applied and got rejected again with same reason. 1. Le projet économique que vous présentez ne répond pas aux critères requis. 2. Les informations communiquées pour justifier l'objet et les conditions du séjour envisagé sont incomplètes et/ou ne sont pas fiables. I've applied in April and got rejected for the first time in May, and applied in June and got rejected twice in July. With same 2 reasons. I donno what to do, I'm a broke graduate who wants to go there to enhance my fashion career, hoping for your reply. Please do help me.

@@saidivya6951 it's difficult for me to comment without knowing more about the type of visa you requested and the project details.Your comment is below a visa on artist visas. it you are talking about fashion, making close, this would be a business visa "profession libérale", unless you were recognised as an artist/fashion designer in your own country. Whichever visa you apply for, you will also need to show savings to show that you can support yoruself.
