This tutorial provides walking through the entire process of turning the heel after the flap is created, picking up the edge sts on either side of the heel flap and returning to working in the round.

How to calculate how many rows have to work for flap? How many stitches have to have for flap ? How have to work the gusset heel if I start my socks from toes?

Thanks for the how to pick up the extra stitch at the corner, it works great, I've knitted a few socks in my time but always learning something new. This works sooo much better than adding a stitch and other things I have tried, thanks.

THANK YOU! I'm doing the vanilla sock, it's my first time ever sock. I'm doing it on DPNs however, and I find it so hard to understand how to do it like that.

Hi Bridget - the sock design that I'm working on are these socks: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rijels-never-gonna-make-these-socks The stitch counts changed a little bit before publication (i.e.: we do a k3 on Row 2 instead of k5 as the video states) but the steps are the same. Happy knitting!

Michelle Woods Thabj you. And absolutely! It's by KiwiPop Studios out in Maine - it's her SockPop base and the colorway is called "Joy". While I don't see it listed on her website she may dye it up on request. She carried it for a long time. It's likely she just hasn't recently. Here's the link: www.thekiwipopstudio.com/collections/sockpop

I wish you wouldnt disappear off camera & pop back in when you'v finished knittingg a row. For those of us just beginning it is so confusing .What may seem simple to you, it really isnt. I'm not stupid, but I couldn't follow what the neck you were laying down. Left just as frustrated and totally clueless as before. The 2 positives I can say, is your voice is pleasant & thank you so so much for not having distracting music.

Hi Kimberly - thank you for this feedback. This video was made so many years ago, when I was just learning how to make tutorials. I have tried since then to improve the quality of my videos. I'm sorry that you found it frustrating. I hope that my current videos will be of more use to you and less frustrating. All the best and happy knitting!

Why do we have half instep stitches, gusset, and half of heel turn on each needle? Why not keep instep on one needle and heel turn and gussets in back needle? I’m sure the former has an advantage or you wouldn’t do it. But what is that advantage?

Hi, Mimi - please accept my apologies for such a delayed response. Your comment got buried in my inbox! You *could* work the instep all on the front needle and the heel turn only on the back needle, but you would have a hard time with the tension of the stitches. The instep stitches remain flat, just like they have been as you've worked the leg of the sock; however, the heel is now a "cup," and the curvature of all of the stitches really fights against the straight needle. So we divide them in half 90 degrees from the original orientation so we don't have to fight the cup shape. Once the gusset shaping is complete, the cup effect is done and we can go back to the instep being on the front needle and the sole of the sock on the back needle. I hope this helps!
