Thanks for making such a detailed step by step tutorial. Just what I needed to finally quit just collecting and sharpening tools. I have scheduled a trip to the store to find wood and a glove.

Hi Nina, thank you for the nice comment. When it comes to purchasing the basswood I would recommend HEINECKE WOOD. You can find them online. They sell top quality basswood. No order is too small.. enjoy and please send pics of your finished owl.

Thanks I have wood but need a whittling knife and gloves. I wondered how I could start. Now you have shown me simple ways to start . My Great Grand Father had to whittle out on the front porch because my Great Grand Mother did not want the wood shavings in the house.

This is the nicest owl carving I have seen online. Your tool list shows a wood burner and I think you had another video which showed the wood burning portion of the owl creation. Is that video still available?

Thank you Wendy for the nice comment. I use the wood burning unit mainly to sign my name on my projects. The other videos that I use the woodburner unit is the basic owl video and snowman ornament video. You can find them on my KZread channel. Thanks and enjoy!

Need to get myself a glove, right as you commented about not cutting our fingers I slipped. Well I am now finishing watching after giving myself first aid to a pretty serious cut on my index finger. Still love the video and this won't stop me from finishing the project so I can give to my daughter.

Thanks David for the comment-Sorry to hear about the cut. Remember that no carving glove are puncture proof but are cut resistant. There’s many brands on the matket so I would go to amazon and read the reviews before purchasing. Thanks Joe

Hi, Thank you for the comment! I'm using the PENTEL GRAPH GEAR 1000 AUTOMATIC DRAFTING PENCIL .7mm Lead size (MODEL: PG1017C) Currently $10.69 on amazon.com The carving knife is the Rick Butz carving knife from www.woodcraft.com its around $25 It doesn't come sharpened, so if you don't know how to sharpen, I would suggest to ask woodcraft if they have a sharpening service. Hope this helps, Have fun carving and be safe!

Wood burning is also a lot of fun. Just learning that tool myself, but there’s lots of books on pyrography (wood burning art) you should goto fox chapel publishing to view those books.
