How To Winterize Your TW200 Dual Sport Motorcycle | Do This Before Storing your Bike For a Long Time

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

If you live somewhere where winter comes and you're unable to ride your Yamaha TW200 Motorcycle as often or at all for months at a time It's a good idea to winterize it. In this video, I'll show you what I would recomend doing to your TW200 to keep it in good shape during long-term storage. This should keep your TW200 in good condition for when spring rolls around and it's time to start riding again. it's never fun when it stops running right after sitting for months. I hope this video was helpful and thanks for watching!

    I’m a marine mechanic, so I take winterizing very seriously. But not on the tdub anymore. Now I ride all winter!

    I took my boat in to be winterized and wrapped for storage last winter. When I came to pick it up in the spring I saw that the lower unit had frozen and cracked. The shop I took it to in Minnesota does this for over a hundred boats every year. I can understand a mechanic getting sidetracked and missing one but the thing that pissed me off was he looked me in the eye and insisted that he had drained and replaced the outdrive oil. I guess that he just wasn't willing to cover the damage caused by his mistake.

    Great video and thanks for coming back and posting. One other trick for draining the carb - after you let the bike die at idle, pull the choke out and try to start/run the bike again. This just ensures there is no fuel left in the choke circuit. Peace.

    Good to see ya back! Tip form a fellow TDub guy. On the left side of the float bowl, toward the bottom, there is a #2JIS screw that opens the bowl drain, (nipple connected to a hose to direct fuel to the ground.) I will drop the fuel out of the carbs on my TDubs if they sit for a week. Looking forward to your Motocamping videos.👍

    I bet you still have a small amount of fuel at the bottom of the bowl that will eventually clog your pilot jet. Add 2 more steps after running the bike until it starves for fuel. 1) Use a screwdriver to manually open the drain at the bottom of the carb bowl. Get every last drop of gas out of the carb. 2) Set the choke and try starting again. Usually when you do this the fumes will allow a quick 1/2 second growl from the motor before it dies. Now you will be totally dry on fuel with minimal risk of clogging jets while your bike sits for the winter.

    Is this carb draining, etc necessary if I'm using Ethanol free gas?

  • @dustydualsport4366

    @dustydualsport4366

    5 ай бұрын

    @@alanm1951 If you are fortunate enough to have ethanol free gas available, then the need to drain the carb bowl is significantly mitigated. You will probably be fine skipping the draining step while the bike sits for the winter. That said, draining the carb bowl will take less time than is required to find your screwdriver and putting it back in the took kit. Draining the bowl can be completed in 20-30 seconds and is cheap maintenance insurance no matter the type of gas you run.

    Fuel Stabilizer is a good idea, I usually also add Marvel Mystery Oil to the gas then slosh it around in a full tank and run the bike for 5 minutes to get it into the carb and cylinders, will coat everything in oil of wintergreen and prevent rust and varnish from forming.
