The sound of winding. Yes, this is what i've been looking for. Thank you. By the time I heard the winding sound on my watch, I thought its already full winded 😄
Here's some more tips: Some can't be wound manually. Only via motion. Also you can't over wind an automatic. Once it's fully wound it disengages to prevent damage. However you can overwind a manual mechanical watch. You just wind it until you feel resistance then stop.

Not all automatic watches have a transparent back. If it says automatic and it starts moving when you shake it a little, that means you have an automatic. Also, if on the dial it says automatic, then it is an automatic watch.

If they are mechanical, you can leave them for months without wearing or winding. When they start to lose or gain too much time or other issues that is when you might need a service. if you have a large collection, you can wind them only when you wear them. There are mechanical watches that are 20-30 years without service and still keep perfect time.

If you wear the automatic watch all day, it should run overnight, some modern ones run up to 3 days. Otherwise, it will stop and yes you need to set the time again before wearing it.
For how much time we have to rotate it to make watch running for 24 hours
@vintageradar
Жыл бұрын
A watch should be winded around 20-30 times. This also depends on how much of a power reserve your watch has. Once you feel the resistance when winding you can stop and check for how many hours your watch ticks.
My roter does not rotate when I move it. But it says my watch Is an automatic mechanical. Does it still get charged by me just wearing it and moving it?
@vintageradar
Жыл бұрын
The rotor should move at least in one direction in order to work and wind your watch. If that does not happen you can shake the watch without winding and see if it starts and runs. If not maybe you should check a watchmaker for more information.

With automatic watches how can i tell if it reached maximum charge when i wind it manually? Great video by the way!
@vintageradar
Жыл бұрын
As you keep on winding the watch you will start feeling resistance. That means that the watch is approaching the maximum number of winds. Once the resistance is high or almost impossible to wind, you need to stop. You are at the maximum winding tension.

@@vintageradari have heard an automatic watch will not give you any tension or resistance only a mechanical watch does this
@vintageradar

@@mianrowan Most will not, there are certain ones that have a power reserve that cannot be surpassed. The majority can be winded without feeling the tension. If you feel that tension you need to stop, or maybe it is a manual wind watch in fact.
Does the rotor behind the watch winds the coil in any direction?
@vintageradar

Some rotors work bi-directionally. You need to check with the manual or the manufacturer to see if the rotor will wind the watch in only one direction.

What happens if you over wind it? Is that possible
@vintageradar
Жыл бұрын
On modern watches that is not possible, since you cannot wind it once you reach the maximum point. However, on vintage pieces, if you try to go past the maximum, you can actually break the mainspring. I would advise winding it up until you feel a lot of resistance or a maximum of 30 times, depending on which one comes first.
My Seiko 5 can't be winded manually, it's only the rotor that makes it work.
@vintageradar

If you have a mechanical one you need to wind it. If you have an automatic you can wind it first and then wear it. If you have a quartz watch, you need to replace the watch battery. If you have a solar watch, it should have sun exposure to get charged. On kinetic watches, you need to shake them in order to charge.
