Awesome video - lost an item in the lint trap this was perfect for my MED6000AW0 except one of the wire connectors didn’t have the clip, had to slide a thin screw driver in to loosen

good video. WORST DESIGN EVER. There should not have to be that much disassembly just to be able to replace that part. The two screws inside the dryer, maybe a couple of others on the outside behind the door and it should have been easy to pop it off and a new one back in.

Apparently that's the way they were on earlier models. This design in intentional to thwart the efforts of the homeowner to do this vital maintenance/replacement procedure. As Barry Tucker noted, it's the same design that benefits the "Authorized Service Representative" on the Maytag washer, making the process of cleaning the pump filter.

I can't believe they engineered this dryer so you have to disassembly the entire unit to clean the lint screen properly. On stinking hidden screw prevents normal maintenance causing you to do all this. The maytag front load washer is the same kind of lunacy to clear out the pump filter. I guess this is the last Maytag product I will ever own. Buyer beware.

Absolutely!!! My experience with both the washer and dryer. The design seems intentional - to benefit the "Authorized Service Representative", not the homeowner!

On my Maytag, which looks a lot like this dryer, you can simply remove 2 screws at the front and 3 screws on the drum side, pull up on the lint screen assembly and unplug it. No need to disassemble the whole dryer to get it out. It is is literally a 5-10 minute repair.

I have a MGD5500 and there is no way it's coming out without taking the whole front off because of that one idiot 1/4" bolt. One of the most anti-consumer designs I've seen in a while.

Utterly ridiculous design. All that disassembly, to get to ONE screw holding up the removal of the housing. If they had even provided an access hole/hatch, it would be better. IF I ever do take ours apart, you can bet I will make some provision for removing that screw later on, or find a way to eliminate it entirely. These should be made so that even grandma can take it out and clean it, not have to shell out money for an appliance repair.
