Thanks for showing the chisel technique. I thought I was going to buy a new dryer after the 1/2 square drive spun in the blower… Does the idler pulley get any grease or anti-seize lubricant?

This video was excellent. Only had one difference with my dryer. There are two wiring harnesses that are clipped on the controller board panel that needed unclipped before you could rotate it out of the way. Also, one note that cost me more time was when you plug in the broken belt sensor (with the wire closest to the power connector), make sure you plug in the top connector (closest to the other plugged in connector) and not the bottom. Motor will just click when you try to start if you use the bottom one.

Thanks for your feedback and your tips! A single part can be compatible with many different appliances. We film the part on a single appliance model to serve as an example of the repair, but there may be slight variations in the process for different models, so we appreciate the information about how the repair went on your particular unit.

Hey, I believe I have a motor failure of my Duet gas dryer. Model label is gone but looks exactly like the one featured in this video, control panel and all. When I turn it on I get a buzzing noise for about 3 seconds then a click and the buzzing stops. The dryer does not spin. The control panel operates as if the dryer is turning when this happens. If I reach inside i can turn the drum by hand clockwise but not counter clockwise. I am being told the motor is bad. Can you confirm this based on the information I have given?

I'm having the same issue, were you able to determine if it was the motor? I'd hate to replace the motor only to find out it was something else.

Motor in a Kenmore HE3 is making a load squealing noise. Sounds metal to metal. Guessing it is a bearing. Do you suggest changing the motor out. Thanks!

  • @appliancepartspros

I would check the drum support rollers and the idler pulley. If it is a motor bearing you would have to change the motor as they do not sell pieces of the motor.

My motor #279787 does not have an open connection on the overload of the motor switch for the broken belt switch (dryer 100.62062103). There is only one terminal already connected to a black wire that goes to either the motor winding or the bottom of the motor switch. Motor will not turn on if I only connect the large white plastic wiring connector, ignoring the belt switch (making assumption it is by-passed on the new motor). How should the belt switch be wired?

The video shows how to reconnect the wires from the broken belt switch. If you are having problems, I would suggest posting the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem. forum.appliancepartspros.com/

If it breaks free of the shaft with the extension then you just have to unscrew it. If it cracks or is stuck on then you would have to break it off!

OK, so apologies for below comment. After actually doing it I don't think it is possible to replace the motor without destroying the fan. So, if you are going to buy a motor for one of these do yourself a favor and get the fan at the same time.

I've spent 20 years of watching various people remove the covers from both the Duet Washer and Dryer just to learn 2 hours worth of repairs. You might realize that people who are going to get this far into a Dryer would know how to take off the bloody doors and covers already. Gimme a break!
