***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

    I look forward to watching your videos each and every day. I'm retired/disabled so homesteading isn't a possibility for me at this stage of the game but I'm living vicariously through you both and am just loving your natural, fun videos! I love seeing the 'daily vlogging' style of videos as they show you as you go through your day. Quite interesting! :) ....and those ducks...they sure do make me laugh~

    I love your Channel and I eagerly await new videos. I also admire the fact that this is a family participated lifestyle. A few of my most favorite homesteading / farming channels, show their children involved and what they do and I absolutely love it. Kids nowadays are glued to the TV and their PlayStations and Xbox. And I find it so amazing an admirable to see children like yours involved in what you do. On another note I'm by no means a pig expert and I know that things on video don't always reflect the reality of what things are, but the pigs look like they weigh a lot more than the weight you mentioned. By the way I watch a lot of homesteading, farming and gardening channels and you guys by far have produced the most beautiful and amazing tomatoes. I remember being a child years and years ago and going out to our garden with a little salt shaker and picking tomatoes off the vine and just sitting they're eating tomatoes until I couldn't eat anymore. Your garden is beautiful and so productive.. I live in a little city in California and my hopes and dreams are to someday and hopefully in the not-so-distant future move out to the country like you have and have a little Homestead or Farm. The closest I can come to that dream at this time is to sit here and watch hours upon hours of KZread videos of all my favorite homesteading, farming, and gardening channels. I guess you can say that I'm living my dreams through channels like yours at this time. Keep up the great work and I wish you all the best. And as you say... God bless. PS. You also produce very beautiful Pablano Chiles. Do you guys make chile rellenos weedos Chiles and if so do you think you could make a video and share recipe. Thank you

    I never realized that y’all can grow yucca there. Do y’all trim the ducks wings to keep them from flying off? You’re doing great feeding the pigs your spare food. No waste on a farm. We could use that rain here in NM. I second the vote for using a cloth style measuring tape, like seamstresses use. But I like your technique. Keep up the good work Y’all. I really like these farm tours and daily life. God bless you!

    A "sewing" tape measure would help so much! It is lightweight and flimsy and you only have to measure once without the second step of getting your tape measure out. They are pretty cheap and I have seen them made from different materials.

    Do you move the pig training pen every year or two? I would think it would be beneficial: prevent any parasites carrying over from year to year; if seeded with grass, the manure would probably make it quite lush.

    So your planning to carry these guys through the winter? In the last year we butchered 4 pigs of various breeds. My plan is to get them to weight by the fall so I don't have to spend the extra money to keep the weight on them in the winter. We cared for 3 through the winter, we're in NC and the winters are mild but it was still more work to care for them in the winter. I'm raising IPP now and I had the mill boost their protein % up to about to about 17% to add muscle mass quickly. The last month or two I feed corn and nuts to add fat to their frame.

  • @LivingTraditionsHomestead

    @LivingTraditionsHomestead

    I'm hoping they will be ready some time in November. I am trying to plan it so they are ready while it's cold out here because we are processing ourselves and that way I can hang them overnight. These guys are off to a little slower start than I was expecting, probably because we are giving them so much from the garden and they are eating less feed.

    Question, maybe not really pertaining to the video but something I've been thinking about. Becoming self-sufficient means growing/raising your own food in hopes to not be reliant upon grocery stores. From the videos I've been watching, it just shifts the reliance from grocery stores to animal feed stores and seed companies. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for self-sufficiency. But how can we be self-sufficient from grocery stores, feed stores, and seed companies.

  • @kirarussom5780

    @kirarussom5780

    5 жыл бұрын

    With the seeds, You want to get some that are open pollinators. That means that you don't have to worry about cross pollination from a different species of plant . Then after the first year, you'd never have to go back to the seed store unless you wanted to get a different variety (or if you have a black thumb). Chickens or ducks for the eggs and some meat. Pigs and rabbits for meat. Cows and Goats for milk and some meat. You could probably get fertilizer from all of those animals, but some needs to be composted. I'm unsure what you'd use if you wanted to make your own feed, but I'm sure you could grow it if you knew what they're supposed to eat. And you wouldn't have to worry about getting more animals if you keep some to breed, just so long as they're not siblings or something. So you'd need to know how to grow everything, how to save the seeds for next year, and how to breed your animals for as full as possible self-sufficiency. However, you may still need the feed store or vet for vaccines, fencing (unless you're a blacksmith or carpenter and know where to get free stuff), and complications with your animals.
