    Nice video, this is the weathering process I use the most. One detail I think you shouldve included is weathering the wheel faces. Its a small step but makes a huge difference when the model is moving

    Wow that Tamiya panel line accent color looks pretty nifty - like you could just use that by itself on a new model without the rest of the weathering process just to give it a little more visual dimension.

    This is almost the same thing I do for Brass, but just without the AIM weathering powder and using oil paints instead as they are easier to work and do a removal process instead.

    feel like weathering the trucks and fuel tank with the wash was only doable as the BNSF units are silver. Would be a lot tricker to have a desirable effect with most roads having black trucks + fuel tanks

    Why do essentially a full brush repaint with acyrlics when you could get better results and not loose small labels and things by filtering with oil paints?

  • @earlwidmeyer2654
    @earlwidmeyer2654 Жыл бұрын

    Hey Josh, thanks for showing this with paint brushing. You went right over a lot of the labels and warning decals. Usually those are reapplied if they cant be read anymore? Do you just wipe them while the paint is still wet or wait until its dry. As you said , it is hard to keep straight lines, would you recommend taping them or will that peel the other paint. Finally I feel it looks chunky and heavy overall. Could you do an engine with airbrushed weathering the same way and show the comparison? I've got an airbrush but still have to learn how to use it. I am just starting into weathering and will try by brushing but I don't want them to be too heavy. Earl

  • @nsmodeler24

    @nsmodeler24

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Earl, I will be going back and applying new warning labels over the existing ones. Alternatively, you could scrape the paint off of the labels (which in hindsight I would have done). Regarding the texture, something about the camera picks it up more so than in person. Looks great under layout lighting. You could definitely do a lot of the same effects with an airbrush!

    If you have an airbrush, use it. The only reason for no-airbrush videos is that, if you post a video that uses an airbrush, the comments fill up with "Wah, I don't have an airbrush. Make a video that doesn't use an airbrush." You especially want the airbrush for fading, as trying to brush-fade narrow stripes with different coloured paint gives a very chunky look.

    Well that was cool, so question on the paint, are you actually use full strength paint or is it diluted a bit closer to wash? Asking because my brush paint technique is not that great.

    @@nsmodeler24 Depends very much on the paint. Some paints require more dilution than others. I think you needed a little more dilution on the yellow, as the brush marks are clearly visible on the nose stripes at 11:26.

    If you set the shell out in the sun for several days, turning each side towards the sun, wouldn't that fade the paint similarly. Anybody out there, tried that?

  • @beeble2003

    @beeble2003

    Жыл бұрын

    No, several days under the sun isn't going to mimic the effect of several _years_ under the exact same sun. And it's not clear the pigments used on the model would fade in the same way as the ones used on the real thing -- different paints fade in different ways.
