Weathering a Diesel Locomotive - UP AC6000 Tutorial

Фильм және анимация

Take a look at a few tips and tricks for weathering a diesel locomotive that will be sure to add realism and help it stand out on your layout. The locomotive in this video is an Overland AC60000CW (technically an AC6044CW... an AC4400CW in an AC6000 car-body), though the techniques shown will work on any brand of locomotive.
Thanks for watching!

You make me realize I value the perfection of the factory painted models over realism. And I guess I am too lazy. But boy, I enjoyed watching you do it and listening to your clear, succinct commentary. Great, great job!

I also use Krylon Matte, but I use the spray tip from a Testors Dullcoat can, and warm the can of Krylon before using (a minute or two tucked between your thighs works - sounds weird, but….). It produces a finer and less blotchy finish…

I don't want to disapoint you but your UP AC 6000 is in fact an AC 6044 convertable with a 4400hp prime mover. You can tell this by the bath tub exhaust stack that all AC4400s have. AC6000s have two smaller square exhaust stacks. All the same you have done a fantastic weathering job on it.

It's known as a "truck light." Sometimes in the cab of a locomotive it can be difficult to tell if you are moving or not and crew will often look out of the window to the ground for reference. The light helps illuminate the ground so the crew can tell if / how fast they are moving at night. Thanks!
