Roku also has a live channels feature. I use it to watch my local news. This is what I would recommend.

I miss Locast. I got a lot of value when it was around.

I received a firestick for Christmas and I Live in Oroville California, the nearest tv stations are from Sacramento

Here in the Chicago area, NewsON only has WBBM (CBS). Haystack has all local other than NBC.

I feel like the media stations should be direct to consumer and have apps that are built into the streaming devices or the TVs themselves so that you would not have to use antennas to pick up the stations or even cable services why not just make the TVs have the channels From the Internet connection as a standard. Partly, I think this is because they get the fees from the cable companies to cover their costs. That’s why they won’t change that.

Luke - when you were talking about NewsON, you twice called it Local Now.

I think news on is one app and local now is another one.

Over-the-air is best. I've noticed a lot of newscasts on the apps cut out certain segments. The newscasts on those don't always match the OTA one.

That’s all well and good, but is there an app where we can watch live tv shows on Fox, ABC, CBS & NBC, not just the news? Every App I’ve found so far only does live news or replay news.

When discussing the first one the screen is showing NewsON however a few times you actually said Localnow. Was that a misspeak? I currently have Localnow installed but never heard of NewsON.

I cannot convince a certain someone in my family to cut the expensive Directv cord. He loves the ATT sports channel that Directv offers. Thanks for your feedback regarding the up to date info on cable news. If it were up to me, I would only have the internet as I simply love YT.

Great, thank you. I live in center city Philly. Because of skyscrapers, i get ABC if i stand in one exact spot, not sit. All shows seem to be horror, there are lots of ghosts.

@richardgusztaw5091 6abc in Philly is the only one I can get. For those in Philly, I have a theory on why ABC soaps like GH are the most popular. ABC is still broadcast on 87.7 fm, people listened to them at work.

Newson been around for a while. What I hate about free streaming services is that they have so many news channels. When I think about local news I think about news that's being reported from the news station in my city. If the news is not coming from my city's news station then it's not local news to me.

Do all these applications have local news that would be on cable TV, or is it like a channel-specific 24-hour news broadcast? I've noticed that, for instance, ABC has a 24-hour news streaming service that's different from what my cable TV broadcasts.

it depends on news station. Some will let you download their TV app and you can watch most recent or current news cast as well as previous episodes,

I love Peacock and Paramount + for live NBC and CBS programming. When will FOX and ABC catch up? I'm not looking for just live local news, I'd like an app that offers FOX and ABC programming, like NBC and CBS has with Peacock & Paramount+.

I don't believe CNN or MSNBC streams their broadcast over internet like you see it on cable TV or satellite. There may be on demand content or segments from CNN, MSNBC, etc on Pluto TV or Haystack. I am not sure about Discovery Plus or Max but they may have some content as well.

What if I dont't have a TV - but I do have a computer with internet access?

I find it highly bizarre that the Big Game is available OTA for free, but any other option is a clusterF...

Last time I checked local news was delayed 3 hours and this was all of the online apps you mentioned. Not very useful.

No depends on your market, like here GrayMedia owns CBS, and NBC, and they do live Newscast on their own app that's on Roku. So you can't make that blanket statement.

We are talking about local news here. For the most part local news is an unbiased look at what is going on in a particular city or TV market. Actual reporting, actual facts. Opinions reserved. Now cable news, a whole different animal, biased big corporate driven and agenda filled. I stay away from most of that. Your best bet for national and world news is from indie journalists on youtube. Yes there still are old fashioned journalists. Hard to believe in 2024 but they do exist. A good place to start is the outfit known as the hill. I find them almost always trustworthy.

I have and that app is a disorganized mess. It's interface is terrible and not intuitive at all. Besides, their non news channels are complete garbage, and their on demand content is inferior as well. Until they improve they will remain permanently uninstalled on all my devices
