How to Wash Polypropylene hair Monster High G3 (Beginner friendly)

Hello everyone! today I am here to cover the basic beginner friendly methods of washing Polypropylene doll hair on your g3 Monster High dolls. Polypropylene is a lightweight low-density grade of synthetic nylon hair. Mattel has stated they use it to fit "vibrant designs" and "stay true to designer intent", and while it sucks that it's here, it CAN be taken care of in a way that ensures it at least looks nice. This video covers how to wash as well as prepare for display (If you choose not to curl it). we will do other videos on how to take care of polypropylene at a later date
Collectorspace is a channel intended for adult collectors and gift givers, and is not meant for a young audience
Parents/older siblings/guardians: This video depicts usage of hot water, do not let children partake in project unattended

    That classism comment is so true cause the amount of people who just say,”Reroot them if you don’t like the hair type” and I’m like,”??? I don’t have the time or money to learn that skill”

    Oh my gosh honest-to-god thank you so much for telling us the temperature of what you should watch out for when putting heat to the doll's hair, because I've been looking around what the safe temperature for a boil dunk should be and everybody was always so vague for no reason whatsoever. Honest to God Life saver actually thank you

    Thank you for showing the process and giving valuable tips along the way. I also appreciate the mention of rerooting not being an option for everyone! I'm new to MH and dolls in general, but I want to treat my G3 Abbey right once she arrives so she'll last me a long time~

    I've never understood the idea that people were not ok with doll nudity tbh, it almost feels weirder to me to treat them like humans and try to cover them because it feels like it's unintentionally sexualizing them by implying they need to be covered. Lowkey the aversion to doll nudity and steps to cover make me more uncomfortable than if the doll was just there without clothing.

    Totally agree, I think it may just be more of a 'uncanny' feeling where people just feel odd when it pops out of no where? I could be wrong, it could be a sexual thing but it's more jarring than anything. It doesn't bother me though haha

    @@chrishirecatsorry to overshare, but I might be able to offer some insight for both of y’all. I can do doll nudity, but I’ve noticed I like to pull my dolls skirt down a little. It’s almost like a fear of someone else sexualizing them or hurting them in some way. As an autistic person who was hurt in that way as a child, I think it might be an association with past trauma and the common autistic experience of applying feelings and thoughts to objects.

    Thank you for this mindset because yes, it does suck but we ain't getting anywhere complaining about it ahile also buying these dolls nonetheless. I've dealt with many dolls I've owned and wanted that had terrible hair quality but my experience made me learn to make by with it by understanding what can further damage it and what can make it easier to deal with. I collect Disney Store Dolls and through them I learn that often times the product makes their way worse and washing it out is the first step to proper care. Polypropylene I'll admit the first time I dealt with it was a nightmare but now, I can live with it. Trust me that I'd 100% prefer saran and nylon but alas. I have been using big detangler style brushes and loads of conditioner. Also brushing through but not forcing your way through tangles or resistance. You gotta be patient with brushing and styling. Also thank you for the "just re-root it" option. I know some people just have the tool and hair to their disposal but not everyone does. And THANK YOU for the fabric softener. I remember using it on my dolls and all it did was make it way worse.

    great video, i hope its okay if i drop some tips too! - let conditioner sit in the dolls hair for like 10-20 minutes and then wash it out if youre having trouble with the hair being too rough. - poly hair sometimes does not lay flat, you can pour boiling water (of the appropriate temperature) on top of the hair to flatten it more! - poly dries pretty fast, if you’re going to straighten it please soak it before AND during the process of straightening to make sure youre not straightening completely dry hair. some people keep the hair damp by using a spray bottle every now and then.

    I didn't even know that about fabric softener on doll hair! I've been cleaning dolls for almost 3 years and I've heard EVERY doll youtuber say "use fabric softener!" I guess its a good thing i never used it for any of my mh dolls. I mean a alternative thats worked for me has to be WD-40 (although for like a couple of days my doll smelled like fish oil..) and Oxy clean. That normally helps me (not with poly hair) but with glue seepage. Polypropylene hair makes me so annoyed and its like im touching a 80s barbie doll honestly 🙄🙄 Thank you for this video!!

  • @collectorspace2313

    @collectorspace2313

    5 ай бұрын

    Conditioner has a lot of oils in it, some of which can damage the vinyl of the dolls heads if not washed out. You should be washing it out no later than 30 minutes after applying it. The longer you let the hair dry before rinsing the harder it is to remove, and it can make the hair fiber feel very unpleasant

    @@collectorspace2313 Thank you! That's good to know! Are there any alternatives to make doll hair softer when conditioner isn't enough? @@amberalissa6900 that entirely depends on the hair fiber, and at least for 2010's Barbies they'll need to be treated for glue seepage in order for regular washing to restore them. There's many methods to treat glue seepage, I recommend goo gone. As for Disney dolls, most of them use low grade nylon or polypropylene so restoration is a bit of a gamble with them but not impossible
