How to Wash Cockles | See Hum

Blood Cockles / See Ham is a very popular seafood in Thailand, served with spicy sauce. However, as it's usually found in areas that is not very clean, so the cockles need to be thoroughly cleaned before we can enjoy their freshness! Utensils ↓
Ingredients:
cockles
1 tbsp of salt

    My cockles were closing well. But after I added salt and soaked them, I checked after 30 mins, they didn't close anymore. Did I do something wrong? Did they die after I cleaned them?

    Hi Ely Suratin, thank you for sharing 😀 No, you did not do anything wrong. If the cockles were not closing, it means they have died. However, the cockles are not supposed to die after soaking in salt water for 30 minutes. It's possible that they were not very fresh and were dying already. It can happen sometimes as it's quite normal if the cockles are not very fresh. Hope it helps 😀

    Hi Ram, oh dear, I hope not. Doing so could spoil the washing machine, or contaminate it with the mud from the cockles. Hope it helps 😀

    @bigred9428. Yes it was a lot, as cockles live in a total mud. That's why we have to wash and soak and wash until it's super clean before cooking. Otherwise it will have smell of med once cooked. Thank you for the comment 😀
