How to Wallpaper - hanging that first length from a corner!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

When beginning your first wallpapering project, you can confidently start from a corner. Hanging wallpaper is straightforward, but what do you do when you reach the corner's end? I'll demonstrate a simple technique using a laser (or a plumb bob) to guide your wallpaper placement, ensuring that the corner aligns seamlessly.
If you're working with a larger repeating pattern, it's crucial to maintain pattern balance on the main wall. Take a moment to assess how the pattern aligns with the ceiling and floor level, including skirting boards, for a polished finish.

@@leeyo5494 with finish paper yes Lining paper before a finish paper, no need. You don't want extra build up of thickness. Cut to the corner. Then I run some Decorators caulk down the corner to get it neat.

Hi Phil, have you ever hung anaglypta? Would you do the same overlap into the corner? Thanks!

  • @ProfessionalPainterDecorator

Yes I have. Not for a long while, it's not in fashion at the moment. Do you mean the paper duplex anaglypa paper, or the blown vinyl style? Depends on the texture of the paper. If it's heavy, it may be a near cut into the corner and match it with the pattern on the way out. Without seeing the paper, I'd make the decision when hanging it.

Hi Phil loving all the videos! Can I ask you what happens when your lining paper comes away from the wall when papering the final paper? Had an experience of papering over some other painters lining and when the pasted paper hit it the lining came off any ideas ? Thanks

Hi thanks. My lining paper doesn't come off??? I never go over anyone else's lining. You only want them missing areas of the lining when they paste it. Or they've not sized the walls correctly and the paste on the lining gets sucked in.. and takes it off the lining. Did the whole lining come off or show as a bubble that looked in pasted... When dried did it pull back? Moral of the story, trust your own lining/work. Well only go over lining if we've done it.

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator thanks yeah all cam off think it was the water content on the packet paste that did it, learnt a lesson in that one! Exactly that - never go over anyone Else’s lining was early on in my wallpapering days lol having trouble reading your replies to me they are pushed over too far to the right and I can’t read the last few words on each sentence so guessing some lol prob to do with my settings but anyway, thanks for taking the time to answer my question cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪

loving the vids as still learning. MY problem is finding the pattern match .... is there an easy way of doing it without lifting the roll up to the previously hung piece...... any chance of showing it on a vid? Realise a big ask but do find this problem holds me back and so frustrates me as think a bit colour blind or something that puddles my brain when looking for this pattern match without holding rolls of paper up..... thanks in advance

TBH if it's a paste the wall.. work off the roll.. a a few rolls, you'll have an idea what part of the paper to need to match to. If it's a paste the paper... A blown vinyl.. with a daft, hardly see it patter repeat... Use the paste board. Use your pencil to do a little mark where the pattern repeats. That way you'll get your eyes focused on where the repeat is. Does that help?

Sometimes the lining paper wasn't cut 100 percent on the rollers when made. So that inevitable butt joint overlaps somewhere when hanging.. That's why a gap was left.you should know this or dad would of.

If it overlaps... Let it dry, sand it off. Or seam roller over it to push it down Yeah, bad trimming in days of old.... But in this day and age you'd expect precision cutting machines :)
