HOW TO: VE TYPE INJECTOR PUMP PERFORMANCE TUNING MITSUBISHI PAJERO Shogun Land Rover Turbo Diesel VW

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I've watched many 'how to' videos that cut out the ONE STEP I needed to see. So, I will tend to 'waffle on' as the Aussies say, to the side of over-explanation. How to get more reliable power out of any turbo diesel engine with the Bosch VE-Style fuel injection pump. NOTE: These precise adjustments are personally set on a Mitsubishi 4M40 engine. Many other manufacturers use the same/similar pump design. I make no guarantees how other specific manufacturer versions of the Bosch VE design, or different engines, will react to these adjustments. Performance improvement from these adjustments will be best experienced with shimmed waste-gate or adjusted actuator as well as an installed boost controller. It is highly recommended that your vehicle already has an EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) gauge installed to manage resulting exhaust temperatures, using main 'fuel load' screw. THANKS for watching. REALLY...PLEASE LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and SHARE!

    Nice little check on the orientation of your '0' on the boost compensator. Makes me wonder as I turned my boost compensator about 20 degrees further towards the front but it then felt slower and higher EGTs 🤔. So I reverted back and to where it was, just about facing the battery and it ran better

    I have another question )) I'm soon to be installing a VGT Turbo onto my 1996 4M40 Pajero, LWB. Would you be able to have a guess as to whether it will run if I do not adjust the Fuel Pump?..because I am trying to save labour costs by installing it and then driving it to a Diesel Dyno tuner

  • @offgridislandfamily

    @offgridislandfamily

    10 ай бұрын

    Well, the point of installing this turbo is for some gain in power...correct? So, as the turbo is jamming more air into the intake to do this, you also need to compensate with more fuel...yes. It will run otherwise, but may lag under acceleration due to lack of fuel under heavy load. Also, running lean with more boost is a commonly known way to burn pistons, which is why an exhaust gas temp gauge is crucial to adjusting fuel for added boost.

    You have a safety blow-off valve on the back of the intake manifold at the firewall / windshield. If you are boosting over 0.9 bar or 13psi, then this valve is opening and this sounds EXACTLY what you describe. Thanks for the question. Hi I have done some of the upgrades you have done videos for. I have a rhd 2 door Pajero with a 2.8. I did the oil catch can, shimmed the wastegate, added boost gauge and controller, straight piped, turned the diaphragm, added a larger fan for the intercooler and hard piped the intercooler. My gauge is reading 10 psi boost and can hear it cut off when when I am full throttle. My questions would be, Why am I not boosting more and the wastegate still cutting off at around 10 psi? Also is the intercooler fan supposed to be running all the time? As mine was not on when engine was at idle. Any feedback or advice would be much appreciated!! Thank you for posting your videos!!

  • @offgridislandfamily

    With a functioning boost controller installed, shimming the wastegate doesn't really matter. It's a quick way to get more boost, by reducing/delaying the opening action. I shimmed mine first (3mm), then later added the controller, as most people do. Basically, it sounds like your boost controller is not very precise or functioning correctly. EXACTLY as mine was (or wasn't?). I finally disconnected my wastegate entirely and now my max is 1.6 Bar or 23psi. Kinugawa (turbo manufacturer) says they 'recommend 1.5bar' for use with their turbos, so I feel 'comfortable' at 1.6. When I install the Kinugawa turbo, THEN I WILL need an accurate, precise and correctly functioning boost controller. If your wastegate is opening at 10psi, then your boost controller is LETTING it open at 10psi. Any follow up questions are more than welcome. Thanks for watching and the video appreciation!

    Realized I missed a question. Normally there is a thermal sensor on the end of the intercooler nearest the windshield. Activates the intercooler fan at a specific temperature. However, I just put mine on a switch, so I can turn the fan on whenever in heavy traffic. Then it's always off when over 40km/h. By the way...how did you install a 'larger fan'? Good work!

    What about the black smok issue after adjusting a diaphragm?

  • @offgridislandfamily

    @offgridislandfamily

    Жыл бұрын

    Well, there is a balance between not enough and too much. When you increase boost and fuel supply, you are naturally burning more fuel, thus, more black smoke. But too much black smoke means wasted fuel.

    You're probably right about that. Didn't have the idea at the time. But...interestingly, there didn't seem to be a big difference in smoke. I tried to dial it JUST enough for more fuel, but didn't want to create massive smoke clouds everywhere either.
