It makes me happy to know someone else is using this technique been doing it for years and never had a problem works great only been driving a few years. Senior drivers laugh at me but when I can get it in the dock or hole a lot more efficiently than they can they shut up real quick

You would think they would make a removable wireless backup camera for truckers who have to change trailers. It just easier safer and faster.

I’m kinda shocked that with all that standard trucks come they haven’t made a backup camera as a standard yet. I mean almost any car has them lol

IKR? These days companies have their truckers surrounded by 4, 5, 6 cameras facing every which way including inside the cab, but none for backing. Edit: it might be a pain in the butt when you’re switching trailers. You would have to easily connect from one trailer’s camera to the next.

I have tried this with a GoPro Hero 4. I cannot get it to keep a connection with my phone(iPhone 15 pro max) when it’s on the back of the trailer. It does work with the Quik app.

35 to 50 ft ... obviously those must be safe, factory stats and assume ideal conditions. Typical truck trailers are 53 ft. Add another 10 to get to the phone in the driver's seat. I'm surprised he's getting such a consistent and clear signal. Still, it seems good enough to strap on a trailer just before a tight, technical, blindside back. He just needs to look into a better mount system. Maybe a magnetic one? Pop it on. Do the back. Get it off and stowed, ready for next time. ...still, the idea of always having eyes in back is intriguing and may very well save a driver's bacon if there's ever an accident. As cheap as cameras are now, hopefully newer trailers might start having them wired in and run to the onboard computer system via the pigtail. That way, wireless connectivity wouldn't be a problem since it'd be directly connected.
