This is what I call gold standard wing chun in MMA. No static or robotic wing chun drills. Just pure application and fluidity of the art. Big fan of you and Francis Fong for quite some time. I do train in wing chun and mma. I do feel pretty disappointed with the huge majority of wing chun videos on KZread. With yours and Francis fong’s videos, you really bring the name of wing chun up a level.

Static drills have their use. Its to develop proper Form / Structure, and coordination. Without it, you have sloppy, weak, techs... that fail under pressure / stresses. One also needs to apply their methods, LIVE, in a sparring context, as well. Ive done both, and I can tell you that very few whom are taught Application ONLY.. could compare to what I do / have done. Its not to brag. Its about Knowledge, Experience, and Higher Truth. These drills were created for good reasons. To ignore the thousands of years it took to develop them.. is to be extremely ignorant, and arrogant, to the reasons why.

What I find interesting is what has changed with Gregs interpretation of the technique is the range that he applies it at. He views it all as grappling vs. blocking, trapping, and punching. The practicality of it should be obvious to any practitioner.

The problem, as i see it, is the same as tkd or aikido. Mma doesnt take that long to learn, and that's fine. But if you want to be a streetfighter in aikido, you need to spend 8 years or more getting REALLY good. Same with kung fu. Then you need to learn grappling and groundwork as well. Sadly, most people don't see that, and so write off systems that aren't "traditional mma" which, of course, is the trap that all martial arts fall into.

@@oldironsides4107 You are a dummy. You missed the lesson. Greg knows what resistance is he's fought mma trained in functional combat sports for many yrs. These concepts principles technical examples can work. He's actually not being 100 % a static dummy either. Dummy. Sensativity and trapping is everywhere in Grappling & clinch from functional arts & MMA. These examples are 💯 applicable and can be adapted into any mma combat sport muay thai jits wrestling with resisting opponents. Don't miss the lessons & go away being a dummy. Or do. Its your choice. You acting like every single thing he said & examples he used that there was 100% no resistance on anything shown is you being deaf dumb & blind. Take that critical spirit non thinking cap off. Don't be a dummy. Those energies from wing chun examples were clearly shown with resistance as its the energy he was speaking on and you need resistance for energy work. You have mental tunnel vision seeing what you wanted to see. Go back & look & listen then look again.

Best part is? Wing Chun is a blend of hard and soft concept's. Your particular MMA fighter will use their weight, mass, force against you. Wing Chun has conceptual method's can adapt no matter what. The law's of physics is on your side no matter what. You'll dominate the fight, if you know what you're doing. But, no matter what, your opponent will have no answer to techincal responses or counters.

"Principles" are great, but my question is, after watching 20 years worth of MMA, why isn't anything like this activated within the ring/ octagon as a rule? Is it the high pressure of the situation, or fight or flight, that prevents a fighter being trained in these principles, from performing these options? Sherk, yes, I've seen do some the stuff shown, but can't recall anyone else really using any of it!

I don:t know much about different fighters styles but I think general trapping is getting more popular. I think training WC specifically for trapping could be the move in a couple years but right now the distance between striking and grappling gets closed way too quickly. If you think in terms of furthest from Kicks, to striking to trapping to grappling, I think with higher level fighters they can maneuver between striking and grappling better. I think it:s just got to get popular and executed well on a grand stage to be more seen in the rings.

BUT- got mashed between two trucks in 99 and made it. Even now- LOTS of pain every single day, and my eye specialist said I was bulding heavy pressure in one eye and told me to stop ALL workouts-- and I did for 6 months. BIG mistake- now I'm so stiff and paind, can barely move-- SO- I'm going to traina nd practice up on my CANE-DO I can use that as an equalizer against multiple attackers VERY effectively-- AND it's legal anywhere.. unlike my guns. (and I won't accidentally kill someone else while defending against some fool).
