This is what I call gold standard wing chun in MMA. No static or robotic wing chun drills. Just pure application and fluidity of the art. Big fan of you and Francis Fong for quite some time. I do train in wing chun and mma. I do feel pretty disappointed with the huge majority of wing chun videos on KZread. With yours and Francis fong’s videos, you really bring the name of wing chun up a level.

Static drills have their use. Its to develop proper Form / Structure, and coordination. Without it, you have sloppy, weak, techs... that fail under pressure / stresses. One also needs to apply their methods, LIVE, in a sparring context, as well. Ive done both, and I can tell you that very few whom are taught Application ONLY.. could compare to what I do / have done. Its not to brag. Its about Knowledge, Experience, and Higher Truth. These drills were created for good reasons. To ignore the thousands of years it took to develop them.. is to be extremely ignorant, and arrogant, to the reasons why.

What I find interesting is what has changed with Gregs interpretation of the technique is the range that he applies it at. He views it all as grappling vs. blocking, trapping, and punching. The practicality of it should be obvious to any practitioner.

The problem, as i see it, is the same as tkd or aikido. Mma doesnt take that long to learn, and that's fine. But if you want to be a streetfighter in aikido, you need to spend 8 years or more getting REALLY good. Same with kung fu. Then you need to learn grappling and groundwork as well. Sadly, most people don't see that, and so write off systems that aren't "traditional mma" which, of course, is the trap that all martial arts fall into.
This is just what i needed. I am a old school wc practitionar and do jiu jitsu for years. This is worth of a series!!
This is by far the best demonstration of applying wing chun technicus and principles for MMA.
Master Greg is a great example of someone who understands and applies the principles & concept, not just stuck in technique.
Just great to someone's else take on Wing Chun and put it to such good use. Life time of learning in it.

I like the art but these positions are with a compliant guy who’s not throwing atbyou or even moving at all Don’t take these tips as the guy isn’t complying and it’s just generally bad fighting advice bjustbwhatbive seen in the half of the video.

@@oldironsides4107 You are a dummy. You missed the lesson. Greg knows what resistance is he's fought mma trained in functional combat sports for many yrs. These concepts principles technical examples can work. He's actually not being 100 % a static dummy either. Dummy. Sensativity and trapping is everywhere in Grappling & clinch from functional arts & MMA. These examples are 💯 applicable and can be adapted into any mma combat sport muay thai jits wrestling with resisting opponents. Don't miss the lessons & go away being a dummy. Or do. Its your choice. You acting like every single thing he said & examples he used that there was 100% no resistance on anything shown is you being deaf dumb & blind. Take that critical spirit non thinking cap off. Don't be a dummy. Those energies from wing chun examples were clearly shown with resistance as its the energy he was speaking on and you need resistance for energy work. You have mental tunnel vision seeing what you wanted to see. Go back & look & listen then look again.

been trying to tell people for years that trapping works in "real fighting" and mma its nice to see people start to embrace it... great video with great practical uses
As long as you know Muay Thai, BJJ, Wrestling and Boxing, you have the foundations. All other martial arts like Wing Chun make the building.
You got my sub with this. Greg knows his stuff. He's the best clinch master I can think of. Wing Chun has clear uses when it comes to hand fighting, grip fighting, clinch entries, hand trapping, unbalancing, and elbow/knee range tight strikes.

I use these same methods but from more of a Bagua context. I think combining the Wing Chun with Bagua gives you instantly unlimited measures to respond and control. Really nice video!

Impressive, very good demonstration of the usability of wing chun work In other martial arts, really enjoy this combination Wrestling/wing chun. Keep it going guys, this kind of content are fire💪🏻🔥

In my utmost humble opinion. “ Nothing more rewarding than getting ones thesis validated by those who exceeds oneself in excellence” An hontor to be able to observe and learn from such peers as yourselves. Sincere regards. Fellow Martial Artist. Tom Framnes. Norway.
I did Small Circle Jujitsu in collage and ever since then I've looked for another art form to work the joint locks I learned. Wing Chung was one I've been curious to explore because of traping. What a great crossover to wrestling. Lots of ideas, great evolution of technique guys.
Great to see the principles on all levels.
This is so insightful, thank you
This is what I call using the tools within various contexts outside the Box. Wing Chun contains good works that can be adapted to Wrestling etc...Very good!!
Great explanation Coach Nelson.
Great stuff man, keep it coming!
Very good since it shows the validity of WC techniques👍🏽👊🏾
Wow what a vid. Perfect modern wing chun, and works really well
Wow, loved this vid.
Pure gold!
Great demo and explanations. Would love to see this with some resistance to see what it would look like in practice! 2:04 was classic. With that position and off-balancing, great set-up for a throw too, not just more strikes

I love to use a trap to get me into a position to clinch or to snake from a frame into a guillotine. You should also try using lop sao as an entry into a standing kimura -- that has worked for me some.

that is how wing chun should be applied. Excellent video!

MT FODA PAI

Always felt chat chi sao is sort of a wrestling technique :-) and that is awsome, cause wrestling is very natural for human beings, and that is lacking in another striking systems other than wing chun

Salve pro Pai e para todos seguidores do pai, acabou vou ver o vídeo 🤣
O vídeo tinha duas mil views, com a indicação do Icaro o vídeo já está com 5 mil!!!
holy shit this is great
This video I like. Wonderful display of eclecticism. Which is my thing. But adaptation is key though. Learning how to adapt to different fighters with different skill sets and attributes. Know what your opponent is all about. Find the holes in his game and exploit it.
Wowwww who is this guy…. He’s making wing chun whole lot better
Caraí, Lee foi jantado kkkk, mesma coisa do ``Smesh´´ do Kabib, é duro, não dá pra usar uma única arte marcial contra isso, é uma Arte.
Like I've said for years. Wing Chung is a system not so much an art. It is applicable in almost any situation.
It has a meaning....applying force diversion.

Vim pelo Ícaro de Carvalho.
2:15 is why shields like that should be only momentary and remain mobile, flowing into some kind of counter. It is just too easy to use the rigidity and visual limitation against the defender otherwise.
Vim pelo ícaro
Best part is? Wing Chun is a blend of hard and soft concept's. Your particular MMA fighter will use their weight, mass, force against you. Wing Chun has conceptual method's can adapt no matter what. The law's of physics is on your side no matter what. You'll dominate the fight, if you know what you're doing. But, no matter what, your opponent will have no answer to techincal responses or counters.
🇧🇷
Nice exemplification! But the maneuver at 5:13 is kinda risky, your head is not protected so if the opponent has good reflex he's probably gonna put his left knee in your mouth.
Vim pelo pai

Great video but Kevin Lee, you gotta work on your breakfalls. As a Judo guy I was cringing. Nevertheless, fantastic stuff!
Who would have thunk it? Applying the principles of a system, rather than rigidly obeying the rulebook, actually works!
"Principles" are great, but my question is, after watching 20 years worth of MMA, why isn't anything like this activated within the ring/ octagon as a rule? Is it the high pressure of the situation, or fight or flight, that prevents a fighter being trained in these principles, from performing these options? Sherk, yes, I've seen do some the stuff shown, but can't recall anyone else really using any of it!

I don:t know much about different fighters styles but I think general trapping is getting more popular. I think training WC specifically for trapping could be the move in a couple years but right now the distance between striking and grappling gets closed way too quickly. If you think in terms of furthest from Kicks, to striking to trapping to grappling, I think with higher level fighters they can maneuver between striking and grappling better. I think it:s just got to get popular and executed well on a grand stage to be more seen in the rings.

A big reason is that people don't like to experiment or try new things when money is involved. You see it not only with MMA, but also boxing, and even big time movies in Hollywood take a safe road.

I'm very well trained in martial arts-- 5 hight ranking black belts-- Kenpo, Hapkido, wing chun, aikido, jeet kune do- and RANGER training and 40 years experience. BUT- got mashed between two trucks in 99 and made it. Even now- LOTS of pain every single day, and my eye specialist said I was bulding heavy pressure in one eye and told me to stop ALL workouts-- and I did for 6 months. BIG mistake- now I'm so stiff and paind, can barely move-- SO- I'm going to traina nd practice up on my CANE-DO I can use that as an equalizer against multiple attackers VERY effectively-- AND it's legal anywhere.. unlike my guns. (and I won't accidentally kill someone else while defending against some fool).
