Vinegar is one of the best ingredients to make a pest control spray.
It is effective in repelling ants, mosquitoes, fruit flies, and many others.
Creating a vinegar mix is quite simple and is considered safe for humans and pets.
In this video we will explore exactly how to use it and what pests it works best on.
1.
Fruit flies.
Getting rid of fruit flies using white vinegar is straightforward and effective.
Here’s a step-by-step guide: Pour about half a cup of white vinegar into a small bowl or cup.
Apple cider vinegar can also be used if you have it on hand, as it’s particularly attractive to fruit flies.
Add a few drops of dish soap to the vinegar.
This breaks the surface tension of the vinegar, causing the fruit flies to sink and drown once they land on the surface.
Place the bowl or cup with the vinegar and dish soap mixture in areas where fruit flies are commonly seen, such as near fruit bowls, trash cans, or sinks.
For an added measure, you can cover the bowl or cup with plastic wrap.
Secure it with a rubber band and poke a few small holes in the plastic using a toothpick or fork.
This allows fruit flies to enter but makes it harder for them to escape.
Leave the trap out for a day or two.
You should start to see fruit flies accumulating in the vinegar solution.
Once the trap has collected a significant number of fruit flies, dispose of the contents, clean the bowl, and refill it with fresh vinegar and dish soap if needed.
Repeat the process until you no longer see fruit flies.
2.
Ants. Using white vinegar to get rid of ants is a simple and effective method.
Here's a step-by-step guide: Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
For example, you can combine 1 cup of white vinegar with 1 cup of water.
Identify the areas where ants are frequently seen.
Follow their trails to find entry points or nests.
Spray the vinegar solution directly onto the ants and along the trails they follow.
Pay special attention to entry points such as windowsills, doorways, and cracks.
You can also use a cloth or sponge to wipe the sprayed areas.
This helps to remove the pheromone trails that ants use to communicate and navigate.
Spray the solution in areas where ants have been seen, such as countertops, cabinets, and floors.
Wipe these areas thoroughly to deter ants from returning.
Reapply the vinegar solution daily or as needed until the ants are gone.
Consistency is key to ensuring they do not return.
3.
Gnats. Gnats are amongst some of the most irritating household pests.
They might not do a great deal of damage, but they can be a nuisance in your kitchen and on your houseplants.
A mixture of dish soap, water, baking soda, and vinegar can be filled into a spray bottle and used to get rid of gnats.
The mixture should contain a few drops of dish soap, a tablespoon of vinegar, and baking soda per cup of water.
A few sprays of this mixture are an effective gnat repellent.
Spray in areas where gnats are commonly seen, such as around plants and in bathrooms.

I'm pretty sure we were looking more so for advice, on where to find source of gnats and how to eliminate. Not what to spray where we see them. They're everywhere, so we have to get to the source.
