I just got a small set of watercolor pencils and I had no clue how to properly use them. This helped bunches. :)

Super impressed with your instruction! I have had very very little instruction with watercolor pencils and as a result they have just sat, your relation to regular watercolor techniques helped me translate these techniques over. I very much appreciate you explanation of how to work the background as this is often where I have struggled as well. I can't wait to explore more of your channel.

also at the end it didnt look like a sunflower seeds, and the perspective/ligt/shadow of the seeds are completely off hehe

Wow beautiful! I told my niece every Tuesday I was going to teach her how to paint/art, and I thought to start her on watercolour pencils, yet I never used them myself, only the watercolour paints. After watching this, it'll be a fun activity for both of us tomorrow!

Thank you for making the point to specify that you must wait for it to dry! I feel that alot of art videos really gloss over when to and when not to do so really appreciate it!

You refer to the process of adding water to the pencil on paper as "activation" instead of painting. You are quite litterally dabbing on water and lightly moving that surface water into the areas of pencil to activate the existing pigments on the paper. The pigment is already where it needs to be-- it just needs water to be made more vibrant and blended. This is a breakthrough moment for me. I just finished the background with a set of faber-castell albrect durers and am now starting the next step with a set of prismacolor premiers (better yellows/warm browns). I have a BFA in studio art but never cracked the code on watercolor. Great teacher! Thank you!

I have this huge project that I'm going to work (lots of flowers) and I'm a beginner with water color pencils. This helps a lot!

I just purchased a set of 60 Faber-Castell watercolor pencils and have been scouring KZread for tips specifically for them (or similar pencils). This video is wonderful! Thank you for showing how to create texture while using watercolor. I like how it still looks smooth, but has more depth than say, just making hatches/lines across the whole paper. Two thumbs up!

And here i was using the tip of my brush (which i dipped with water) and lightly brushing the tip of the watercolor pencil.... then started painting.. thank ya!

Great tutorial! I learned a lot about how to improve my use of my Derwent pencils. The only thing I didn't care for was the messy edge of the petals. I think that could have been avoided by using a smaller brush to apply the blue background. The way you did everything else was wonderful! Thanks!😊

After watching many videos on watercolor, I can see that I’ll like the pencils much better at least for now and likely because I’ve been using prismacolor colored pencils for quite a while.
