Thanks for posting! This is THE key racket skill to start playing real badminton. The frying pan/waiter grip does teach the hand snap but the wrist bend drains all the power. The wrist does move some but that is more because it is responsive and relaxed. I like your explanation of keeping the grip and gesture in the fingers. For some reason, the (underhand) forehand lift is more difficult to teach than the overhead shots while the backhand lift/supination comes more naturally. That may be because the racket arm is across the body but why that makes more sense for beginners is still a bit fuzzy for me. As always, your videos are excellent for beginners and advanced players.

Thanks a lot for all your feedback Mark! You are completely right about the forehand that's excellent noticed. It might also be that in the forehand you use 4 fingers to time the rotation with the power. In the backhand you only use your thumb, which is much easier. The backhand forearm is easier and much more used actively for kids. The forehand rotation kind of depends on a backhand supination before you got the powerful pronation in the forehand. Hope it makes sense 🙂

@@ShuttleLife Yes, all good ideas and will take some time for me to add to my teaching. Players have to move from thinking and acting in straight lines and move a circular/spherical action. The wrist bend is one of many straight line solutions which do not work for a good forehand lift. Using the proper grip means timing around the circle to hit in-court (horizontally) and timing around the circle to hit up (vertically/over the net). Great to communication with you and your group. I worked for several years with Dennis Christiansen at BNC in Durham where I was fortunate to meet several Danish pros. Thanks for all your insight. Best. Mark

I dont understand the swing @1:31. If I swing like this, the shuttle will definitely go to the right side.

I can see what you mean. However you are supposed to hit the shuttle just when the racket points forward. Kristoffer shows how it looks like when hitting the full stroke but try to see the shuttle in slow motion and you can see it will go straight 😎👍

It helps to change your body orientation so you can see how the pronation will work. Turn your body 45 degrees to the net which clears room for your racket to move. Visualize the circular movement of the racket and choose where on the rotation you hit to direct the shuttle straight or to the side. Once you get this rotation, all sorts of other shots become possible.
