This was just terrific! Thank you!! I actually had an image open in PS while watching this for my personal Education time today. An image that I believed I'd just finished. I did your last adjustment, Gaussian blur> Soft Light and - okay - NOW my image is finished. : )) I love people like you who share their expertise.

Your shortcut, Cmd/Ctrl R, is fantastic because it allows you to open in Camera Raw without having to wait for Photoshop to open. I love it! Always at least one take-away from your tutorials. Great treatment of masking!

Thank you for the video! I downloaded your image and played around. It's amazing how the image looks so different when you adjust the standard screen mode (light grey, dark grey, black) in PS preferences. I worked on the image, though it was perfect, got up the next day with 'new' eyes, discovering that it wasn't perfect, and made more adjustments.

how can you export the mask in this case - or can you not? Because this is way better than a usual selection. I could not find a way yet. Thanks. Great video!

Great!! Just one thing, I'm pretty new in ACR 14.2 and I still don't know where the comands are. Sometimes you push the acelarator and i stay complete lost.

The biggest difference between Bridge and LR is how they operate from an organizational standpoint. There are some other benefits of each (for example Smart Previews in LR, which are not available in Bridge so with ACR/Bridge you have to have access to the originals to edit them) and being able to do side-by-side comparisons of images is easier in LR (can be done in Photoshop, but not really in Bridge/ACR). But for some people, the process of importing files and creating collections (in addition to what they already do on the hard drive when they copy files over from their memory card) can be a bit of extra (and in some cases, unecessary) work for their workflow. This is true especially if you have a good folder structure and way of naming and keeping your files organized from a phyiscal file/folder structure standpoint. But regardless it uses the same Adobe camera RAW engine (ACR itself -- the front end--what you see; and LR Classic, both use the same math and routines, and I turn on XMP files in LR Classic so I can sometimes edit in ACR/Bridge quickly as it keeps the edits stored in the XMP file as well as the LR Classic catalog. The only issue with this is that you have to tell LR Classic to read the XMP file to update the Catalog, if you edit outside of LR like in ACR/Bridge). But I mainly use the XMP feature in LR Classic as a secondary form of backup in case LR crashes. The most I might lose is the last edit or so (but it constantly writes changes to the XMP files as you edit your files, so it's sort of a good way of backing up your work as you go that's "automatic").

It all depends on organization and how many photos each person takes that's for sure

I would like to know how to combine two masks in camera raw. Thus suppose I have mask A for object A and mask B for object B. Now I want to add a mask that combines mask A and B. My purpose is to be able to duplicate this combo and then duplicate & invert it to get a mask of the background that excludes both A and B.

I think something is wrong - I clicked on the above link to download the sample picture. I never got the email and it is not in my library. Thanks

it's an amazing edit…some of us just add a filter to it and that's it 😂

Whatever works!

Too much separation between sky and ground for me. So I prefer doing small adjustments in ACR, and them work in Photoshop layers.

It's a creative process for sure. I personally love the lossless workflow of using ACR. But, Whatever gets your image where you want it!

I love that you don't use Lightroom. I'm shocked that so many do. Acr is far more colour accurate

I would have thought doing this to the original raw file, rather than a tiff, would make more sense. Particularly when you say you're using a " raw converter". There's also some pretty nasty haloing around the high contrast edges that hasn't been addressed. Just sayin'.!

Thanks for the feedback Mark, doing this in real time for a tutorial things for sure get missed.

These new tools are useful, but they only work well for a scene that has sort of an unbusy skyline. Better than before, I guess but far from plug and play.

I don't like Lightroom. I do use Photoshop for most editing. For portraits I like Capture One. I'm not too good at Photoshop yet. * Your thingamajig looks like an Aztec in a serape with a basket on her head.
