I have found on the bigger cozies it is better to also sew the fabric n batting together by making 2 more lines of stitching from one dart to the other dart on each side (making another X). It helps to hold the layers in place when they r washed.
@karenpalmer9988
2 жыл бұрын
So after you sew the X on the fabrics with the batting, and sew the darts, and then you sew the bowls together, turn, and top stitch your sewing two lines down each side of the X? To me that's what I THINK your saying if I'm right? It would make sense to do that so the bowls stay together when washing... I am a visual person, so that's what I think your saying...if I'm wrong please let me know what you mean? Thank you!

Just today I saw the cutest Halloween fabric somewhere. I think it is Too Cute to Spook by Me and My Sister. So cute and non-scary! Just adorable! Boy do I need these templates! I bought the flexible template that you trace onto your fabric and batting last year, and this looks so much more easier, and less work! I love that it comes with two templates for a Large and a small bowl too! I will be buying one next month for sure! Now I wished I had waited for this! This brought me a little cheer since I had to put my black cat down yesterday morning because he had cancer, and wasn't doing well... Sewing keeps my mind off stuff, and is a great stress release, so having these will keep me from crying thinking about my black kitty...that was his name my daughter had given him "Black Kitty"...RIP buddy I love you

Love the fabric choice! Have started making the small cozy for gifts. I trim off the edges with pinking sheers before turning for less bulk. The points where the two darts come together is very thick and although I’m using a 14 needle, and go very slow, I’ve still broken three needles at these points. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks 😊

Hi Kathie - How long has it been since you've had your machine serviced? There's a slight possibility that your shaft may be off a bit (not noticeable if working with thinner fabrics). If you know this isn't a problem, we would suggest possible handcranking the needle when you come to this portion of the project, through those particularly thick stitched. Hope this helps! -Michelle

Excellent idea as I do like making the bowl cozy's for gifts I do wish Creative grids would change the product a bit on the large temp. Larger template is not user friendly for dexterity issues/smaller hands or arthritic hands. The middle cut out makes this very hard to use. Very little to hold in place.

You were mentioning that you could use the precut batting for both the regular and large size bowls but isn’t the regular precut batting cut at 10.5 inches while the regular template in this set says 11 inch. Would the fabric then be half an inch larger than the batting? I’ve just ordered the templates but I do have some of the precut batting in my stash and hope I can use them with these templates.

I make a load of these cozies as fundraising items for a cat rescue. It's important to use 100% cotton batting - if it has polyester scrim it can melt in the microwave. I have found 2 brands which work really well - one is Pellon All-Cotton Batting and the other is Warm 100 by the Warm Company. The Pellon one does come is quite small quantities - although I tend to order King-size quilt bats for my mass production!
What size bowls are needed to put into the cozies?
@ShabbyFabrics

It depends on which cozy size you're creating - the larger bowl cozy measures approximately 8.5" in diameter, and the smaller size should fit a standard size cereal bowl. Hope that helps! -Michelle

Yes, one suggestion would be to try to prewash your fabric AND batting to help eliminate shrinking when washing the cozies for the first time. However, our makers have not pre-washed batting. If you'd like to attempt to prewashing your batting before you cut it for the cozy, our suggestion would be to soak the batting in hot water, wring it out, and lay flat to dry (without stretching), and then press flat once dry (without stretching). Hope this helps! 💖 -Michelle
