Me to! I am watching now. The problem is have is trying to look them up with operative reports they give! I don't know the name of the surgeries since i am a beginner and struggle looking them up. So technical that they almost forget i am new learning. They did so much to teach you how to look up icd10 using the index but it's like they forgot to teach us the index on the cpt. I got an extension read the book and did the interactive lesson outside blackboard and am stuck in cardiovascular and afraid to take the exam

@@annabrasuhn5598 The cardio section took me 3 weeks and I was totally doubting myself. I had to take the chapter exam twice but did pass it. Stick with it. I now know that I will not be working in a cardiologist office. 🙂

Thank you for all the great videos! I have recently passed my CPC exam and your videos were a big help in my preparation! I have started the AAPC's Practicode program and find that I am struggling. After looking online, I have found that many others find themselves in a similar situation. I would love to hear your view on academic vs practical coding, if there's any big stumbling blocks for people coming out of a CPC certification and into real world application, or whether practicum courses are intentionally designed as difficult. Thank you for all your great work and help so far and am looking forward to future videos!

True. I just finished my 2nd semester and at the moment, I have a strong dislike for CPT! Now I’m just trying to wrap my head around it, after dedicating most studying to ICD-10. We’re currently between semesters so I’m trying to gain clarity on CPT, as I’m very comfortable with ICD-10 now

It's funny how the idea of making a video walking through the book never really occurred to me until a subscriber asked for it! I can see why a lot of instructors and courses don't include things like a book walkthrough or the guidelines review -- they took a lot longer than I thought they would!

So glad I ran across your video. I picked up ICD-10-CM very quickly; it made sense to me. I am completely lost in my CPT course. I am taking my classes 100% online, so I have no actual human instruction and am so lost! Thank-you for making these videos. I subscribed and am going to go back and watch your other videos. First off thank you, second if you use your iphone camera with the QR code on the front of the AMA CPT 2021 it takes you to the AMA page to register your book. Added security? I hope that helps explains the QR code on the cpt book.

when coding how do you code in order when it comes to the ICD-10, CPT and the HCPCS?

Where do you the listing of cpt codes and the amount of united your allowed to bill? For example CPT code 14021 allows to units per day.

There's a bunch of videos on that. Check on the channel page, there's case studies videos plus I have a few recent chapter videos (integumentary, respiratory, etc) that have some sample questions with look-up.

I need your advice! I am a seasoned coder of Icd9cm, but I left 8 years ago to be a stay at home mom. I now want to be recertified as a RHIT, but never coded with the new Icd10cm. What would you suggest that I do? Thank you!

Does a coder need knowledge of icd, cpt and hcpcs codes to become a certified coder? Does a coder need to memorize all these thre books codes? If not ,then what codes does he has to memories? That's a big book, do you have to buy a new book each year? Or can you just get an updated cliff notes or something like just appendix B?

It's either a new book every year or an encoder that is regularly updated. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It's quite a racket.

Is it okay if we may tabs for the CPT with the first number in a code in addition to the ones that come with the book?

You can do that, yeah. The only real strict rules are no using post-its as tabs, it should clearly just be meant to bookmark the page.

I didn't know I'd be a CPC-A first. Can CPC-As work remotely with no experience?

When does the new issues come out? 1st of the year? I plan to take the courses after the first of the year but don’t want to buy books that I’m going to have to replace in a short time.

CPT updates take effect Jan 1 every year. The new books typically release in December.

Your don't have to, but if you test in 2022 it's highly recommended you use 2022 code books.

I would check with your school -- CPT 2022 is actually about to come out next month and you'll need that book if you're taking a certification exam in 2022.

TAKING CERTIFICATION EXAM, WHERE IN E/M IN THE BEGINNING OF THE CPT BOOK WHERE WOULD OUTPATIENT CODIND BE IN THE CODING BE, I LOOKED IN THE BEGINNING FOR ANSWERS, I WAS LIKE NOT SURE WHERE TO LOOK . COULD YOU MAYBE CONTACT ME BACK, I TOOK THE FIRST TEST IN MARCH POINTS SHORT 31, they requirement IS 390 IN THREE HOURS. THE TEST WAS NOT HARD JUST THINGS THAT I HAD NOT STUDYED MATERIAL FOR. I TOOK PENN FOSTER STUDY MATERIAL WHICH WAS LITTLE NOT WHAT IN STUDYED FOR.

I actually just received mines from school but I don't why I received 2 other Code Books 2021

The structure and layout of the CPT book has not changed, and this video only covers that and not the actual codes. So the video would be unchanged for the 2023 version.

Can I use 2019 books for 2022 or 2023 to get lisence.

You are still permitted to use older books but may be at a disadvantage due to code changes. The exam is currently based on 2022 codes and will be based on 2023 codes starting January 1, 2023. I would direct you to the guidance provided by the AAPC: www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx " What year's books should I use? Since the code sets for each coding book are updated every year, it’s essential for coders to have the current year’s books/manuals to ensure accurate performance. Reporting wrong codes can lead to denied claim submissions and substantial penalization. It’s clearly very important to get an education on the annual code set updates and to obtain new code books every year. All AAPC exams are based on the current calendar year’s code sets, so we strongly suggest you use the current year’s books. The previous calendar year’s books may be used on an exam, but you would be at obvious disadvantage doing so. The upcoming year’s books are not allowed for exam use. The exams are updated every January for the new code sets. Examinees using their second attempt in the next calendar year will not be permitted to take the previous year's exam. Note: Please make sure you are now using ICD-10 CM or ICD-10 PCS when needed."
