    Great video. You are the reason I started scrolling over 20 years ago. Bought a cheap harbor freight Scrollsaw, ordered some spiral blades, followed your videos and never looked back. Now, just doing it better with the Pegas saw that I bought from you. Oh, and you can teach an old dog new tricks. I have never enjoyed cutting the tiny pieces as you demonstrated on this video. Come to find out I have been starting from the outside and going in causing cracking and breakage. Cool tip, starting from the inside and cutting out. You the man, Scroll On. 👍

    Thank you Charles for making this video. I have only been scroll sawing for the last 7 yrs or so and yet I still learned something new that would help from being frustrated while cutting. And that is that it is much much easier to avoid cutting on the side of the line, wood that you want to keep by simply lightly shading the waste side of the line. Wow! Of course that trick can also be useful too for cutting wood using regular single sided scroll saw blades as well. Very handy when making several very intricate designs where it can easily get a bit confusing during the cutting process of the design. Why I haven't thought of that one before, I'll never know. I must be a Rock! Again, TY for pointing that out ..... not to mention the several ideas you shared about the use of spiral blades.

    Great video, Mr. Dearing. I’ve been woodcarving for less than a year and scroll sawing even fewer times (and only in regard to cutting out the wood patterns associated with my carving). I learned several valuable tips from your video. Thanks for posting it! I’m struggling with buying my first set of assorted scroll saw blades. The many various types of available blades is a bit overwhelming. Do you have any suggestions/guidance on choosing a good assortment of types of blades? And can you recommend a manufacturer of good quality blades?

If you get a gross or more, put CHARLES in the notes portion of the transaction. If you get less than a gross, put CHARLES in the gift card/discount box ;) As far as which Flying Dutchman varieties to use, the folks over at the site can guide you much better. I was wondering if you could help me? I recently purchased a scroll saw. I bought some reversed blades and I’m cutting out images on cedar boards, but I can’t keep them straight. There’s a lot a little cuts. I was wondering about using a spiral for that, I’m not really sure what to do or what type of blade to go with Let’s say something like a pumpkin cut out. I tried it with a reverse blade but I can’t get them to come out straight.

    Hi Charles, thanks for the video. What type of spiral blade are you using and how much tension do you put on the blade when mounted. I use Olsen blades but I get wiggly lines when I cut. The blade has a hard time to follow a straight line compared to my one sided blades. I'm thinking that I'm not tensionning the blade properly?

  • @CharlesDearingScroller

    @CharlesDearingScroller

    3 ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching. It does sound like you need more tension on the blade. To be sure, I have a video elsewhere on my channel called "Anatomy Of A Scroll Saw" that mentions the sound you want to hear when it's properly tensioned. I use only Flying Dutchman spirals #3 and #5
