How to Use Slide Masters & Layouts in Articulate Storyline

#InstructionalDesign #eLearning #ArticulateStoryline
When you’re starting to create a new project in Articulate Storyline, you might be inclined to jump right in and start adding content to your slides. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, taking the time to create slide masters (sometimes called master slides) helps you save time and establishes a consistent look and feel for your eLearning course.
But how do you use slide masters in Storyline? Well, the good news is that if you’ve ever used slide masters in PowerPoint, they work exactly the same way in Articulate Storyline.
So, in this video, I'll share how to create and edit slide masters and layouts in Articulate Storyline.

A really good video, but I think it didn't go far enough. An idea would be how to take those layouts and how to create a new template file (ie with text and image placeholders filled in) to share with other IDs working on the same project for the same client. It also might have been a good idea to show how using layouts not only adds to the consistency of the project, but how if you use a layout and insert an image, but you inadvertently move the image (or text), the user can then right-click the slide and hit "Rest Slide" to bring it back to the original look (that trick alone has saved me a LOT of frustration!). Anyway, just a suggestion. I'm working with a client now and I've managed to show them how spending a few hours creating the layouts and master slides (based on their style guides) at the beginning of the project saves you *heaps* of time with development (especially if lessons all follow the same basic format but will have different text and images) and workflow, but it also ensures consistency throughout all modules so that you don't get what I call "the creep" (ie images/logos are shifted 1 or 2 pixels between slides).

Thanks for sharing, Doug. Those are other topics I plan to get into with future videos. The goal of these videos is to provide enough to help get people started. Stay tuned...I'll be adding more in the future.

@@elearningacdmy I cannot wait for this. I am loving your content but the missing factor for me now is how can I share these master slides with the rest of my team to utilise and also how can another persons layout in StoryLine be transferred across to my master slide. Waiting in anticipation....

@@melitacooke3439 Thanks! It's on my list...but, in the meantime, all you need to do is go to the File tab, click Save as, and then save it as a Storyline Template file...and you're good to go to share it! And, of course, if you're on a Teams account, you can share them in the cloud via Articulate 360.
