In this video I show the four steps I use when I have a photo reference for painting a horse portrait.
The horse in the photo is my Arabian Rabhar. Rabhar has been gone a long time ago and my photo has faded a lot, but the oil painting should last for ages! This was back when I still lived in the Netherlands, I decided to give this painting some warm summer evening light, but there is always a lot of moisture in the air, so there is a lot of atmospheric perspective, which gives the trees far away a blueish haze.
