How To Use Nutritional Yeast | 3 Wonderful Ways (besides popcorn)
SUBSCRIBE ➡️ bit.ly/2KyiBAF
Nutritional yeast is SO dreamy.
It’s loaded with vitamins and minerals, and it even has some protein in it.
So, what is nutritional yeast? It’s an inactive yeast that grows on molasses. It’s got a really rich, almost cheese-like flavour and it’s so so delicious.
Nutritional yeast flakes have been a popular topping for popcorn for a long time, at least where I live, but this stuff makes EVERYTHING taste good. Once you get into it, you’ll be putting it on everything.
Ways to use nutritional yeast (AKA "NOOCH"):
1. MAKE ANYTHING CREAMY
Broccoli soup, cauliflower soup, mashed potatoes, risotto, pasta, nutritional yeast has this amazing way of becoming super cheesy and smooth when its mixed into anything warm. I’ve seen it in tons of vegan recipes for this reason. Vegan mac and cheese, "caulifredo" type things, it’s perfect for that.
It also adds an amazing depth of flavour - not unlike the flavour of… MARMITE! Which is also made from yeast. So , there ya go.
2. THE ROAST AND SPRINKLE
Literally any vegetable. Roast it, and sprinkle it with this business. It’s so freaking delicious. Try it on things like:
Potato wedges
Brussels sprouts
Squash
Shishito peppers
3. THIS DRESSING
This is hands-down one of the best nutritional yeast recipes out there. You can find a million different variations of this dressing online, and here’s mine: howtomakedinner.com/blog/nutr...
I’m not totally sure where this dressing got its start but two cookbooks from my little corner of the world - Whitewater and Hollyhock. Since then it’s popped up all over the place! You won’t even believe how good this dressing is, you’ll literally want to dump it on everything.
I’ve even seen a company making a really similar one lately and its available in bottles from a few local grocery stores for like 8.99/bottle.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks! Excellent video. You asked for other ways to use nutritional yeast, and mine is one I have never seen in a video about nutritional yeast. I use it as a coating on foods you might normally fry, but I bake or broil them. Here’s how: For fish, shrimp, pork chops, chicken, etc., coat pieces with a little melted butter, oil, yogurt, buttermilk, cream cheese, etc., to provide both flavor and a sticky surface. Then sprinkle generously with nutritional yeast. Press these down a bit with a spoon, spatula, or gloved hands to help it adhere, then bake, broil, or sauté. You’ll no longer need to use flour or corn meal on these items, and you will get much more flavor and lots of B vitamins.
I wasn't even looking for a dressing recipe. This is exactly what I NEEDED. Thank you.
Froth some butter up in a small frying pan. Add some yeast flakes and stir with a fork for a few seconds until the yeast changes color slightly. It burns very easily so be alert. This mixture should be fluid and not like a paste, so the correct amount of butter is important. It is probably about half and half. Add this to your popcorn, it is absolutely mind altering. I am amazed to hear that sauerkraut powder is great on popcorn. Thanks, fellow Canadian, all of your suggestions are spectacular.
I’ve only used it on popcorn so this is great!

Hey Paula - excellent - thanks to yourself I have added Nutritional Yeast to the cullinary arsenals of 3 others plus myself. A bowl of broccholi florets, cauliflower florets and diced potato all drizzled with oil, salt, pepper and yeast then BBQ-ed in a baking tray - terrific 🙂 T'was an accompaniment to a whole red snapper which sat upon the vegies in the BBQ! The vegies went in a cold BBQ (Weber Q) and when temp reached 400 (5 minutes) in went the snapper, wrapped in foil and after 15 minutes just cooked through. A fab addition to potato mash also 😉
I like you!! Thanks for that! I've always used it popcorn, but im trying expand my uses!

I started using nutritional yeast with my porridge flakes for a nutritional breakfast at the start of lockdowns. I was looking for something to boost my immunity, physical, and mental health, after a brain stroke last year. Up to that point, I had enjoyed a long, very active life, with robust good health, never needing medication. It was an experiment at first, I cautiously added it to my morning porridge then into scrambled eggs, sprinkled over a variety of salads and into my omelette mix with all types of cheese. I love it with kefir, yogurt, mixed nuts, fresh berries, dried fruit, chopped fresh fruit, seeds…. Whatever I’ve tried it with, I have enjoyed - sweet or savoury, the list is endless, and I keep finding new ways to use it, so it’s been a useful and healthy addition to my diet. *don’t confuse Nutritional Yeast with Brewers Yeast though, lol!

I’ve never tried it on sweet things! I’ll have to give it a shot. Maybe sliced apples? Like an apple and cheese kinda vibe?
I tried it on scrambled eggs and it seems ok. Thank you for the ideas!
Nooch is one of my favorite foods. I make mac n' "cheeze", sprinkle it on roasted and steamed veggies, make "chickun" broth powder, make "cheeze omelettes", and sprinkle it on salads. There's just so much you can do with nooch, and now I can make salad dressing with it. Thank you.
Half way through the video and I'm salivating already!
Any form of vegetable cooked, fried, baked/roasted, or steamed.. it has to have it. I've recently been putting it on top of fried or scrambled eggs..and fried tofu. So good and good for us. Fellow Vancouver Island granola crowd ☺️✌️

I'm just imagining an Italian sprinkling as a replacement for Parmesan. Sacrilege to some, a revelation to others. I personally love adding almond butter too. Just needs a bit more pre-melting to stir in effectively. But at the end of the day, a small price to pay for great flavour.

I became convinced about nutritional yeast when i was nursing a baby. I was having trouble producing enough milk and my milk was watery. 3 was of nutritional yeast, my milk came in milkier and more of it.
i discovered it about 10yrs ago, while researching veganism(which i am not) on google. it took a minute to get used to the taste, now its a staple in my kitchen. Each brand has its own taste. Large flakes are best. I luv it on a baked potato with a drip of olive oil.

@@HowToMakeDinner Camomile and lavender has to be great to relax in the evening.
