My story opens with hopelessness and ends with hope. Beginning is a short prologue at the start of the current age, showing despair and teasing the power and control our villain possesses. End is our MC being rescued by the rebels, he learns there are others out there fighting to overthrow their oppressors, giving him hope--he's not alone.

The book I'm currently working on opens with a heavy mood where my female protagonist (17 years old) is training her horse to one day reach her goal (dream) of becoming a show jumper at the Grand Prix at the Stockholm International Horse Show. But her horse gets spooked, makes a crooked leap, and bolts. She ends up paralyzed from the hip down and must adjust to her new everyday life. But it ends in a good mood as she keeps fighting for her dream and becomes a para show jumper. Book title “The Para Show Jumper”

In my opinion this is the channel where there are the most valuable informations about writing a compelling story and consequently how to engage the reader as he deserves. I do think that you studied hardly the matter and you are seriously devoted to help writers in injecting life in what they write. I'm profoundly glad to have found your channel. Thanks Brandon and greetings from Italy. Ciao!

My story is a Horror/Fantasy, but it opens with relief/hope. My main characters ship crashes by an island, and 5 years later they finally get off the island which is where the story starts. It still has a sense of Fantasy and horror in the opening but its not completely there, ots more so lingering in the background. Not sure how im going to end the first book yet but i plan to end the story as a whole as a sad and dark ending. Things are subject to change though.

Possibly unintentionally, but opened with a formal/tense tone. Someone going somewhere new, unsure of themselves. I wanted to show growth (and hope I did), so the story ends light hearted and the character at ease with their situation.

Insightful stuff, man! Laymon's mood shifts come to mind. One of the reasons why his books are so hard to put down. I just realized this after watching your video! Cheers.

Thank you so much! I have been given pressure on many sides to simplify my story, so this was very revelatory! Thanks! My current work in progress starts with uncertainty and anxiety and ends with certainty and comfort! 😊

My story opens with intrigue, uncertainty, and fear. Something has happened that is not supposed to ever happen. The implications of it make authorities worry The end will be bittersweet. The great threat is defeated but the price feels too high.

Have you done a video on writing facial expressions or reactions? I can’t seem to find anything on that, and my stuff feels overly repetitive. Ex, raised eyebrows, knitted eyebrows, eyes crimped, etc. Thanks for your knowledge.

Great and inspiring video! 😀🙌 I was wondering, when you use a prolouge in your story, should the ending-mood be the opposite of the opening-mood from the prolouge or from the first chapter? 🤔

Entirely up to you... But if you want a more definitive answer, I'll say yes to going with the prologue mood because you want the beginning and end of your story to have a "Before & After Snapshot" effect to it

I have a short prologue that sets the stage with hopelessness. The end of my story has the MC feeling hopeful. So yes I think one of the main reasons for a prologue is to set the mood!
