    This was super helpful! I picked up one of these for $15. I didn't know if it worked but I had a spare battery for it (because I shoot a Mamiya 645 pro) and it does in fact work! This video was helpful in making sure I knew how to operate the meter! Thank you!

    The auto meter III is pretty much the same as the IIIF minus being able to meter flash and uses a AA battery. theIIIF cane out around 1981 the IIIF mid to late 80s. Still have both , great meter.

    Hey thank you for the video on the basic functions on this meter. I'm trying to set up a home studio and bought a second hand on ebay that looks great and seems to work but when trying to read the "E" comes out on the f number unless I really lower the shutter speed even on bright conditions, is it normal? Also, is there a way I could use this with my monolights for portraiture? If no, do you recommend any other meter "not so fancy" that gets that job done? Thank you in advance!

    I recently stumbled across my old Minolta auto IIIF. It's been over 20 years since I used it. I have been trying to fit in 4 xLR44 batteries. Thanks to you I now realize it's one "4LR44" battery instead of the 4 little LR44's. Thank you so much becauseI thought it was just broke. I ordered the correct battery - fingers crossed. Out of curiosity, why did you do a tube on this ancient light meter? I mean I'm extremely grateful but there can't be many people still using this meter.

    Be sure to remove the battery when not using, the IIIf tends to drain the battery fairly fast even though it is supposed to go into a low power drain mode. Could also be mine ecumenical temperamental 😀. Have had it since 1988, meter not the battery,. I think the V F went back to one AA battery. Still a nice meter

    I think you did wrong the procedure with the x4 LR44, because I did and it works well as with a 4SR44 or 4LR44. One 4SR44 is over USD15. x4 LR44 is USD 3. Did you covered the electrode cover with a heat-shrinkable tube ? If you dont know how to do well by yourself, I recommend you to buy the LR44 x4 to 4LR44 adapter, the name in Japan is> UNX-8643 . It is similar or less price than a 4SR44 or 4LR44 and after you can continue using x4 LR44 that are much cheaper.

    Hi can this be used as a reflective meter if the white cap is removed and meter pointed at subjects? For example metering for a distant scene where walking up for incident reading isn’t possible? Thanks!

    I’m trying to meter using de FNo. But it shows E no matter what ISO or Time I set. Any recommendations? It used to show proper F numbers, I don’t know what happened 😞

    How does this help me in a Hi Speed sync situation? I know the ISO, and the F stop, but need the shutter speed..

  • @photographyandmore

    @photographyandmore

    4 жыл бұрын

    HI Mark Wellman, From my point of view not much, since to be able to use high-speed synchronization it is necessary that both the camera and the flash have that function so that they communicate with each other and can synchronize.

    How would you go about setting the shutter speed that not 1/60th or 1/250th when using flash?

  • @photographyandmore

    @photographyandmore

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Devante, A good question, never I tried that, but I imagine if I wanna shot to 1/125 maybe I can use the light meter to 1/250 and when I want to use a speed minor or equal to 1/60 y can use 1/60, to uses speeds mayor to 1/250 I guess is impossible sync.

  • @xagikneex

    Take a reading at 250 of a sec. Lets say you're using a 500cm which lens has a leaf shutter and you wanna use flash at a 500th of a sec. You just open up ONE stop from the 250th reading. Say you wanna use it at 125th of a sec. Then you stop down ONE stop. You just gotta do the math. Make sure you're camera doesn't have a sync speed first. Most consumer cameras do, so you can't just use flash at any setting you'd like.

    Hello...I'm still confused as to when to leave the dome on or take it off, could you explain?? Also, when to point the meter away from the camera/subject and when to point it towards the camera/subject, could you explain?

  • @photographyandmore

    Hi K Lewis, The spherical diffuser is used to exposure subjects with volume, like a person, a vase, etc. The flat diffuser is used to measure exposure for flat subjects like a painting, a photo, documents. As far as I remember the light meter should always point towards the camera.

    @@photographyandmore Hmmm. Still a bit confused... So if I'm taking pictures of buildings, I should point the some towards the camera? I should not remove the dome (my dome is removable, it's a Minolta).

  • @photographyandmore

    @photographyandmore

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@klewis7567 As the building is an object with volume, the dome should be left. To measure the light you should get as close as possible to the building to make the light measurement, pointing to the camera, even if the photo is taken at a greater distance from where the building is.
