This is so great. I adapted this setup for my bicycle as a rearview camera. Although my Sony camera is older (A5000) it still works. There is a little lag but not bad. The camera's telephoto can enlarge the cars behind so they can be easily seen in time for the bike rider to avoid problems. Thank you!

You are so strangely innovative. I love it! You are also a much more capable bicyclist than I. If I put my camera rig and iPad on a bicycle, I would be out $5k+ in less than six months. I crash all the time-very uncoordinated.

Is it possible to do that with a Sony Actioncam (which I don't think has a monitor to show a QR code)? Thanks

Thanks so much for this! I have a Sony a6000 and I was finally able to get it to work without purchasing any extra items. I do have one issue still, it only is able to show me when I'm taking photos, it doesn't allow me to take videos when I'm on that application. Do you happen to know why?

@solow_coastin just try it out man… it’s slow… loses connection… if you try and send full files and proxy it takes an hour to send one video… it’s not very good I mean it works… but the external monitor thing with the app is so laggy. Looks like crap.

i think it will depend on the version of wifi used. does your ipad feature wifi 6 and does your sony camera feature 5gh wifi transfer? if you have older versions with limited data you might experience lag

Mark, that’s a clever move. It would be a great tool for astro workflow. Astronomy and astrophotography introduced me to the photo/video world, but it’s been a while since I’ve tried it. I’ll give it a go and use this neat trick! Thanks!

Hey Cara, they do have this app for Android too 😀

This does not apply to all Sony Cameras e.g. I have a Sony a7ii which does not have the Ctrl w/Smartphone option, thereby lacking the QR Code.

Yes that’s right, it only works with more recent cameras. (I can’t believe the A7II is nearly 10 years old next year 😳)

It’s only very very small though, unless you’re filming something that needs to be super live it’s pretty good

the two star review of the app at 0:59 reveals why this is shit. what Hasselblad can do sony cant. Make an app that just instantly connects without trying 20 times. this is not workable in a professional environment.

@@MBrown after turning on wifi + bt and connecting to app camera went in infinity loop. Even if it is turned off it power up itself and gives system error after few seconds :( I googled for it and looks like it damaged main board .. not sure how and why?
