Hi Maria.Do you have a video describing the complicated system of placing pronouns inside future and future conditional verbs? Evidently Brazilians abandoned this system.

Olá, John, obrigada, encontrei-a agora quenado li esta mensagem. Vou responder já.
Tenho duas perguntas: 1.Como se sabe se um verbo precisa do objeto direto ou indireto? Por exemplo em alemão o verbo telefonar precisa de um objeto direto = tefoná-lo, mas em português é telefonar-lhe com o objeto indireto. 2.

Sehr geehrter Herr Obermeit, I thought I’d reply since it might lighten the work of the video creator. I am a native, though I’m afraid learning verb regency in Portuguese is a bit different compared to doing so in German, but not so much so. It depends on the case, really. (each case, not the Kasus, although also the Kasus, haha) Certain verbs in German bind a certain case, like helfen does with dative, and anrufen for akkusativ, but we don’t have this binding relation in Portuguese, instead, each verb can «select» two complements, depending on its level of transitivity. The first complement, or argument, which would equal the accusative, is that representing the object affected directly by the action of the verb, while the second argument, the «indirect complement», describes an agent that is indirectly affected by the action. One example of this is the verb «dar», which similarly with geben, selects two arguments, (Eu dou *algo* a *alguém*), (Ich gebe *jemandem* *etwas*). The tricky part is what «constitutes» being indirectly affected by an action, which I always found to be a confusing rule as a native, and in that regard, we must put our German cap on and try to sear into our brains which verbs ask for which objects and in which contexts. For such, a resource called «Dictionary of Verbal Regency» exists, I recommend the Celso Luft version (verb regency is the same in every variety of Portuguese). In case you have a doubt, you can consult it. Most online dictionaries also indicate if the verb is transitive and in which way it transitions onto which objects. In your second question, the answer isn’t too different to the one above. You mostly have to know which given verbs ask for which particular clitics. Though your examples, that of imperative, expletive forms of «calar» and «foder», are reflexive, as they are said with the purpose of the agent you are speaking to «inflict» a certain action onto themselves, thus, «shut (yourself) up» and «go fuck (yourself)». There are boundary situations in which the imperative form can take an indirect object, like in «Opá, calem-me», which means «Gosh, shut me up», used in contexts in which you realise you haven’t stopped talking and you want someone else to take the word. I wasn’t sure in which language to reply. If you would like me explain in Portuguese, I would gladly do so. My German is B1 so I’m afraid I would be a bit over my head.

@@joaoazevedo3939 Muito obrigado pela sua resposta. Vou procurar essa "Celso Luft". What I don't get (I have to memorize it) why is the person I directly call (by telefon) only indirectly affected by telefonar. Your other example is the same to me: calem-me is to me the direct object, because I'm shuted up. Preciso de fazer mais pesquisas sobre o que significa "ser" um objeto direto ou indireto.

@@heikoobermeit782 É deveras bizarro. Existem algumas explicações linguísticas (como aquela do avião que pára em Lisboa), mas acho que não são inteiramente claras. De todo o modo, o objecto indirecto tem sempre de ocorrer depois duma preposição (que é quase sempre a), e até na forma pronominal, podemos testar a transitividade indirecta substituindo o elemento: Ele deu a maça ao irmão. Ele deu-lhe a maça.
