    Nice when a professional takes time out of their day to give free education. As a hairstylist myself, I know time is money and hard to come by. Thank you Chris. Haters you took the time to watch only to be critical? Rather than spew negativity, how about embrace the intention. Thanks again!

    Thanks for sharing ❤️🇨🇦I am a professional cosmetologist and reading some negative comments about your technique! Reality is that everyone can customize it accordingly and do whatever is best to keep the integrity of that client hair you are working on. No one is perfect this is a long life learning career and we can all learn from each other so thank you 🙏🏿 for your time and for sharing your knowledge! Keep up the good work!

    Silver Mont absolutely, I couldn’t agree more. I think people just like to be negative.. but the reality is, once you KNOW the rules, then you are able to break them. All about creativity & that makes you a better stylist 😊

    Amen!!!! Everyone is talking about the closeness of the lightener(he feathered a lot to me) and the upward motion and ruffling the cuticle, and like if you don’t like it, don’t do it!!!! I came back to this video to refresh my memory on throwing those precut foils sideways and the amount of negative was alarming...we go to school to learn the “rules” only for then to be broken once we get out. That’s the purpose of this art is to be free and find our groove.

    As a stylist I say thank u for showing the diff ways u do foils. Also I must say I have been doing this for yrs, and the foil "fold" has no bearing on the end result. Thank u for ur time.

    actually he did this correctly. yes bleach does expand but the way he did it w pushing up the brush bristles towards the top of the foil is correct. as long as u don't go *past* the foil, u would be OK. anyway, really enjoyed this vid. new sub!

    You should always fold your foils toward the scalp. And never go exactly to the tip of the foil, bleach expands, causing bleed marks.

    I do my own foils at home. I usually do the back first, as it's the hardest to do on my own, and takes the longest. Also use a 10 or 20 vol for back, and 30 or 40 for front, so the processing is more even. Also do the back first because my hair is very long, so by doing the back first I can use the crown of my head to paint, and then lay them all back before I do the sides. Starting at the top helps as well, as I can just use less hair clips,and it keeps the hair I've already done out of my face

    I've done hair for 27 years and I would NEVER do my own highlights especially in the back of my head, ah no way! I've used these techniques in the past. I was wondering why you would fold the tip of the foil inwards (the part closest to the scalp) I fold mine over too, but I find it works better for me to have it folded out wards, that way, if the foil slips I can stick the end of my rat tail comb in the fold and slide it back into position.

    Some people do it because they'd like to have a clear line as to how far up to put their product to avoid bleeding and swelling. I prefer to place the fold in the back to be able to adjust the foil if I need to make it more secure.

    At school I was taught to put the fold on the inside but I’ve recently been trying to get into the habit of doing it the other way but for some reason I’m just so fumbly like that. Because I find my foil goes all crooked and I also end up having to pull my comb out and put it back in. I know that doesn’t make sense but I don’t know why I can’t get it. Just hard to break old habits i suppose

    Hey, I know this is a month late but I've got an answer. Im a licensed Cosmo for 11 years and would love to teach, so I would like to answer your question. In school they expect you to work down the middle and then sides. (Its textbook procedure,) but if its a client get creative, when working with a side part, you can work from part, down to the ear, vertically! Shows off creat color when styled! Good luck!

    I'm in cosmetology school currently in week three we did rollers, finger waves, blow drying and now coloring ... I have no idea what I'm doing or what I'm doing so wrong.. I can't get the foil to stay for the life of me!! My colors bled EVERYWHERE it's embarrassing bc I'm the only one really struggling so hard...

    yes, as long as its ripped too the right shape and not too crumpled(makes folding it hard). the techniques shown in the video where very sloppy, you should not do this in real life, there are many easier and faster way of doing foil highlights/lowlights

  • @kathleenroberts6357
    @kathleenroberts63579 жыл бұрын

    Wow, I'm not trying to be rude, the fold goes towards the scalp( underneath, you don't see it) and it also gives you a crisp clean line... AND it prevents bleeding/leakage... I think you need new guidance, but keep at it, looks good other then that

    Where do you live/work from? I have the hardest time finding stylists who can color/foil my hair properly! 1, they do not get close enough, 2. They do not work product into my hair(it is thick and difficult to lift(level5 but takes lots to lift right) 3. they never use an ash toner when I ask for it and 4. because my hair is so thick and when done correctly can take hours just to foil, the stylists seem to go chunky, rush, and leave unhappy. This may all be a product of living in Scottsdale and having access to some of the best around and now live in city of only 125,000 people. The quality does not exist here. In Scottsdale it would take my stylist a FULL Saturday to properly weave all my hair, make sure it is saturated and worked in, close to my scalp as humanly possible without being on my scalp, and would go thru 1.5 boxes of foil. That said, so my hair didn't fall off it was done in 2-3 parts. Frankly I scare stylists because I know exactly what it should look like, and I tell them, but after being here for almost 10 years, I still cannot find anyone that comes close! is there a place for references and photos of stylists work? I need help!!!!!

    Great question, I know you asked this a long time ago but just in case somebody’s watching this video for the first time I wanted to put in my two cents. If the level really doesn’t matter for this technique what matters to determine if you’re going to use the horizontal highlight retouch technique would be how much regrowth the client has. So if they have 2.5 inches or less of regrowth that technique would be OK. if they have anything over 3 inches of regrow then you would want to go with a vertical foil method. I’ve never use this highlighting foil method going horizontal but I don’t know why I never thought of it before. It makes so much more sense and allows you to leave the ends out & pull up the foil closer to the root.
