Cranes are underpowered, they need a bump to the amount of weight they can carry. I feel like they are super weak

Crane strength is tied to vehicle weight, same as winches. Heavier crane trucks will have better lifting ability. I use a P12 with the big heavy crane as my main crane truck and it can lift any cargo easily at even full extension. It is somewhat accurate to real life though. Lifting things at a distance requires not only power, but very heavy counterweights, and actual crane trucks can be absurdly heavy. Kenworth makes a C500 with rotator, a type of crane, that weighs in at over 200,000lbs for just the truck alone. As as far as cranes go, it is pretty small.

one bit of crane advice I could share - when using the small cranes (the American one is yellow, Russian is blue) since they activate and extend automatically when you select them, be aware of anything that may be in the way of their extending. it can run into nearby trucks or scenery. the yellow one activates rather violently, so be sure to set the anchors first. I've actually had a truck knocked over by this crane opening against a tree or a building. good times

You can also use the cranes to help you get unstuck - I have done this once when I got stuck in some broken ice. Managed to push the truck out with the loading crane. Very handy!

You're right, good point. Or you can have the crane pre-deployed and use it like a walking stick for stability before you even tip.

8:38 A noteworthy detail is that when you hold cargo with a crane while driving and then get stuck and use the winch, the crane will disconnect from the cargo. So better not get stuck :P (or, worst case, pick the cargo back up after winching out of the mud/snow/rock you got stuck on). Thx for the guide. Learned another thing or two, especially about the very heavy cranes from Season 10 👍

Good point, that's the downside of the crane cargo trick! Although I've seen some people wedge cargo without having to be attached. Glad my guide was somewhat helpful.

Some cranes (TAT-12) are strong enough to keep the cargo in place anyway, just by pressing it down, without keeping it on the winch.

By the way in the settings there is a crane button menu you can enable to display all the crane buttons on screen. There is also an option to toggle through the points to attach when picking things up.

The TAT-12 crane is great for overloading. That’s why you can easily load up to 6 slots cargo on the back of the Tatra Force truck.

You can often save yourself from a partially rolled over position with the crane. So long as the truck is upright enough for the engine to start/run, you can use the crane to push against the ground and tip you back onto your wheels. You can also push yourself along or out of mud/gaps with the crane pushing against the ground or other immovable objects (like punting a boat)

Best tip I can offer is if you have a truck that is useless to you, make it a dedicated crane truck especially if you are in hardcore and have to manually load all of your cargo. Even if you have to tow it into place it's better to have a truck with a larger crane handy then to try and make do with the small cranes. Obviously if you have mods then you can crank up on the power to a degree but even that isn't a sure thing in my experience. If you need a crane for rescue work then again use a dedicated truck but just use one that has good off road performance and can operate with some level of independence.

Another nice crane trick: sometimes when you flip your truck, you can restart the engine after “restore crane”, and use the crane to get it upright again, by pressing the crane into the ground.

1:29 you can also do this (extend crane legs) with the L3 button (PS5) while in the crane menu. 3:13 or you can select the winch point just like with manual winch (PS5: square button ▪️, then arrows).

The Kenworth 963 has a unique LC 3.8 and Log Crena version (not interchangeable with other trucks). However, the cranes for Loadstar 1700/Navista/Western Star 4953 (PC320)/Zikz 605R(Avto-23) are interchangeable with other trucks. Very useful information for Hard Mode... Personally, I only see differences with PC320 for Wester Start and Kenworth 963 cranes. There are more such differences, e.g. Dan has a unique fuel tank (it looks identical) and a service addon (old type). If you look in the game files, modified cranes also have: Burlak, Femm (small), Zikz 612 but I didn't check if they are interchangeable. The funny thing is that the tires are interchangeable between trucks that have 3, 4 or 5 axles ;)

3:00 as a couple others have mentioned, around this point you discuss picking up cargo, but you don't talk about the manual cargo point selection, which you can't see because you don't have the controls displayed on screen. You don't actually have to maneuver the crane close to the cargo you want to lift.

  • @AtomizerX

    @AtomizerX

    Ай бұрын

If you need to unflip a vehicle it's usually best not to use a crane. Drive another truck perpendicular to the flipped one, select the highest winch point on the side, and try to pull it back on its wheels.

Correct. Cranes in Snowrunner are terrible at flipping things over. In real life, cranes wrap their cable around the vehicle they want to roll upright, and this allows them to do the job safely. We cannot do this in Snowrunner, cranes and winches can only hook directly to a point and pull straight. This makes using cranes to upright trucks and trailers very difficult. But there is still an advantage to cranes as recovery vehicles. Winch strength is based on vehicle weight. The heavier the truck, the stronger the winch. Since the cranes are so heavy, especially the big crane, it makes the winch stronger. Add in that already heavy trucks are the only one that can mount the heavy crane, and it provides you with an extremely powerful winch truck. Just be careful not to flip it over, heh.

Easy to do in Michigan. The large mission fuel trailer at the eastern fuel station nearest the garage has a centered lift point. Even the medium cranes are able to lift it high enough.

You really missed the mark on this one. You say how to use cranes, but don't actually show using cranes in practical ways. Like counter boom to keep from tipping on a slope. Dragging in a large or heavy cargo with a small crane. Pushing a cargo to load. Using the big cranes to load big cargo. Most importantly, how cranes are terrible for uprighting a tipped vehicle. Also, how crane strength is based on vehicle weight, like winches. This means heavier trucks have stronger cranes, as well as being more stable. A great place to have shown useful crane operations would have been the big 4 slot Large Pipe in North Port, Alaska. Rather than struggling with a small crane, using a large crane makes it super easy. Later in other missions on various maps, cranes are useful for transferring cargo around. This means you can save a lot of time by getting cargo with smaller and slower off road capable vehicles from difficult spots and then transfer the cargo over to a faster truck or bigger trailer. Additionally, heavy crane trucks make great winch trucks due to their extreme weight. Finally, why cranes aren't useful for uprighting a truck. In real life we wrap the cable around the vehicle to roll it over. But since Snowrunner cables don't exist, we can't do that, making cranes terrible at uprighting a truck or trailer. Probably would have good to actually show practical crane operations too, rather than just faffing about not doing much of anything.

You can attach one cargo to the crane and use the arm of it to pinch down another cargo on top of other cargo on your bed.
