This is one of those videos where the creator cares enough about his audience to make the video in a manner that its a breeze to understand the concept. IMO not every content creator does that. So, many thanks for putting in a great effort and for making it a very worthwhile investment of my time. God bless.

Thanks for the super helpful video, Marquis! My one suggestion for future videos would be, if possible, to make your tiny window of yourself a little bit bigger so that we can see you better. How do portfolios fit in to the hierarchy? One above projects? Or on the same level as teams?

Hi Marquis! First of all, thank you so much for this video. It helped me a lot to structure my Asana knowledge, which I gained very intuitively. One thing which I've been looking for and yet haven't found in Asana is possibility of making the fields in the Task mandatory - is there any possibility of doing that? I'm used to creating tasks with mandatory fields as I did it in Azure Devops, but I'm afraid Asana does not have this feature. Or maybe it does? Please let me know, if possible.
@MarquisMurray
9 ай бұрын
Hey, great question! Mandatory tasks are only possible if you’re using a form to collect the required information. You’d need to us a form with questions that when populated, fill the field of your choosing. No other way around that for the time being.
I tried introducing this process to our creative team (comprised of copywriter, photographer, graphic designer, sales, and marketing director) they looked at me like I had 10 heads and they felt really overwhelmed and they couldn't figure out how we could apply this process to our current workflow. I'm confident it can work but I need help explaining it better to them so it doesn't feel overwhelming. Also the traditional terminology like "stories", story points, etc and doesn't translate well to the creative production world so I wanted to know if you've helped other creative teams help roll this out to their teams

You're talking about incorporating SCRUM within your team? Or was it the concept of sprints? Unless you already have a culture that accepts agile as a way of working, this would be a heavy lift. Have you tried setting up a test team and or project to show them what it could look like and the efficiency it provides?
Great tutorial Marquis - I do have an issue with how Asana is structured - in all projects it is driven first by the business objective to be competitive, and therefore projects are driven by function and not people; one focuses on deliverables that are caused by tasks and sub-tasks and FINALLY theses tasks are driven by people/team members - so how is it Asana placed the team first? don't they know that people can change during a project or were they only focused on small projects (1-3 weeks)... Please advise, Thanks!
@MarquisMurray
Жыл бұрын
This is a really great point. There seem to be many key features missing if our goal is to build projects around people. From what I know about Asana, they have always been too down. It’s based on their pyramid of clarity and starts with the mission of the company, then the goals, projects, and people that drive those projects. That said, I think they have made huge strides to focus more of the people by adding new features. Thanks for the thoughtful comment.
Thanks for such a useful video! One question about Multi-Homing- Once a specific task is assigned in different spaces/departments/projects, and with different levels of progress (New, In Progress, Blocked, etc.), what should happen after one department completes the task? I made a test of this, and once someone in one department completes the specific task, it's marked as "Complete" everywhere else, i.e., other departments/projects. Is this right? I was hoping multi-homing tasks would be the answer I was looking for, so that I could tie in all my departments and make things less redundant, and more streamlined. Thanks for your help and input!
@MarquisMurray
Жыл бұрын
Hey there! That's exactly how multihoming works, yes. Is that what you were hoping it would do, or where you thinking that task completion status would be different in each project that it is homed to? The goal of multihoming is to have a unified view of the same task across multiple projects, sections, and teams. One workaround if you needed independent statues would be to utilize subtasks within each of those multi-homed tasks so that you have another layer of completion. Not sure if that would work or not for your use case. Thanks for the comment!
This is great - thank you! One question...how do I get the dragon? I don't have it on my account and I've searched all my settings and cannot seem to find it 😭
@MarquisMurray
Жыл бұрын
Ahh, great question! In your settings go to “Hacks” and make sure “Extra Delight” is turned on. Actually, as I’m writing this, I remembered what it was. That dragon is unique to the Asana Demo space that I use sometimes. Asana Inc. would have hacked their Asana to have the dragon show up. I can’t even get it in my instance. That would be a nice addition.
great video I am learning a lot from you question how can i get the task that are in my task that is Approved into the Approvals section?
@MarquisMurray
Жыл бұрын
The sections in My Tasks are independent from the sections within a project. You can set up different rules for each use case. Hope that helps!

Q2 - Is Asana designed for department heads? because the more I learn about it the more I noticed it is focused on individuals and their tasks where a manager can assign and then monitor progress, but it is in no way a Project Management tool - Am I correct or does it have a PM module that is missing here? Example: Does Asana can set and reset a Baseline for a project? Can you find a critical path for the project? Can it have joined sub-projects? can it incorporate individual calendars and calculate resource availability? can it incorporate Lead-Time or Gaps? can A project incorporate multiple Milestones? And last but not least - Can Asana have all the above in a single project? If not, then WHY is Asana selling the idea of Asana as a Project management tool?
@MarquisMurray
Жыл бұрын
I get what you mean, Abe. Asana is primarily a team collaboration tool that helps managers and even department heads to manage their teams' tasks and monitor their project's progress. There are Asana templates that can help you identify critical paths and free floats, and you can incorporate multiple milestones and set project baselines within Asana. The tool is not as entirely dedicated to project management as MS Projects, but it's still a great tool for PMs to manage projects. Hope this helps!
