How To Use an RV Dump Station | Moving Day with Five2Go | Ep. 54

One of the most intimidating things for the newbie RV owner is dealing with the black tank and, more specifically, dumping its contents. When you have a full hook-up site it's not super stressful because you can take all the time in the world to take care of the sewer connection. However, when using a dump station you could possibly have a line of people behind you so you may feel rushed. In this video we walk you through how to use a dump station so you can hopefully feel more confident in the process and survive the experience!

Great video! Ty so much for all the info. As a nurse just want to very highly recommend using soap & water to wash your hands after this activity instead of hand sanitizer because there of GI bacteria like Cdiff that hand sanitizer does not kill. The last thing you’d want is a Cdiff infection on the road.

FYI: on long trips in the van and littles are in their car seats, sometimes put something on floor to elevate their dangling legs and feet. It will be more comfortable for them and their lower limbs won't go numb. Children can't always verbalize what's uncomfortable for them. Just a thought, carry on.

I had not been camping in a trailer for a decade when as a young adult i got a job taking care of motor homes on a low budget movie. i was amazed how much trailer maintenance info i had absorbed from watching my dad flush the tank all those years ago and it all came back to me as dumped the holding tank on a small motorhome that had been used for two days by a 40 person crew. it was full up into the bowl and i had to drive slow just to keep the bowl from overflowing. i quickly found the hose stored in the square frame bumper but when I pulled the release valve nothing came out because of all the TP and paper towels that had been thrown into the toilet. i had to climb on the bumper of the moho grab the edges of the shell and rock left and right until the clog suddenly let go. All your logic for doing things in the order described make sense, but i do think I would rinse out your dump hose BEFORE you collapse it so nothing gets trapped in the folds of a compressed hose.

I don’t know if this was addressed in past comments, but I would add fresh water to the black tank (like 2.5 to 5 gallons) for future use so solids and toilet paper don’t fall on a dry tank and possibly start stacking. Just pour the fresh water from a bucket directly into the toilet.

I wanted to ask you if it’s any different cleaning your tanks now in your motorhome compared to your towable? And did your towable have a washer dryer in it? Like a combo? It looked pretty nice. I never saw the video on that Rv. Just the cleaning tanks. Brian you did really great on the video. Thank you so much for having video on before and now. I keep one hose in a tube mounted under the rig that's built to hold them and the other two are in the back of the truck. The connectors and accessories are kept in a Sterilite bin with a snap-on lid that's around 30 or 40 quarts I think.

That’s a cool travel center.. was there a charge for hooking up for the short stay?

No charge! You can stay overnight for free too, you just have to register in the guest services building. We were technically too long to be there (which is why we parked at an angle) but it was pretty quiet and we knew we weren't going to be there for too long.

They sell an attachment so you can attach the water hose to the dump hose.

The gloves in this video were rubber dipped work gloves. I've since switched to full neoprene gloves like this: amzn.to/3tCQIxh

I mean yes, there is some extra weight. If 30 gallons, then 240 lbs. But your trailer probably weighs like 8-9k lbs? So not a huge deal to have the fluids on board, and likely not a major contributing factor to "wear and tear." That being said, I would probably dump with the opportunity as well. Thanks for the video!

Love your Family, enjoy watching all your videos, we just upgraded to a 2020 Grand Design Reflection 312 BHTS, (Thanks to you lol) We are very excited for spring to get camping, Question, we noticed on ours it has another pipe in the rear coming from the outdoor sink (Outdoor Kitchen) that has no holding tank, do you ever connect a hose to that when camping and connect with a "Y"? Just curious if you have the same pipe and if so what do you do, Thank you in advance! Looking forward to your new videos with the new RV btw I was your 500 liked. hehe

Thank you so much! You're going to love that rig! As for the pipe in the back, it's just for the outdoor sink. We never used that sink so I never bothered with a Y-splitter. If you're going to use that sink it's up to you how to run that water. Since it's just water and probably soap and maybe small food particles, it would probably be fine (in most campgrounds) to just let it drain on the ground back there. Just remember that the pipe has a cap and that sink will back up very quickly and flood into the bedroom and living room if the faucet is bumped while moving and you hook up the water!

Thank you so much for your quick reply. Never thought about the cap and that it would leaked into the bedroom. I think I saw that you removed them in one of your vids if I’m not mistaken. Great point. Thank you so much! See ya in the next Video.

I don't do the black tank flush at dump stations because I like to let it run for a good 5-10 minutes.

I don't own an RV (yet), so this might be a dumb question - but when you did the lunch stop then went to the dump station, do those places typically charge you for using their dump station?

  • @Five2Go

    @Five2Go

    5 жыл бұрын

It varies. Most dump stations that are in rest stops are free that we've seen. Dump stations at gas stations are generally 5-10 bucks. We've never had to pay though because we just use the campground dump station when we're pulling out if we didn't have sewer.
