I misspoke 1/4 is larger. The 3/16 is the smaller size not 3/8
Washers. Use washers.
Just a note-- Tapcon package suggest a masonry bit smaller than the screw size. Read the package before drilling. Also do not over drive those screws. They can strip out concrete and block. I usually finish last couple of turns by hand.

@@BuddysDIY also dont use an impact drill with the tapcon. the impact can blow out the concrete/brick

Agreed 100%. Found out the hard way.
The addition of a washer under the Tapcon would make your installation more secure and professional looking. Just my thoughts.

Disagree. At times no washer is better.
When drilling through steel no matter the thickness turn the speed of your drill down because when you go fast you’re literally just polishing the surface
Thanks for the video. This will definitely anchor the tool box in place. If you want to maximize your anchor strength when sinking them into a cinder block wall, you may want to take the additional step of aiming for the "studs" in the blocks. Most cinder block walls are hollow, so anchoring into the solid portions of the blocks, which are typically about 1" from the left and right edges will give you the strongest anchor. The grout is probably the weakest point on the wall to anchor to, so avoiding that's also ideal. That said, for this application, it would probably be overkill to go through all that extra trouble.

You're definitely right. But if there was gold in this tool box I would be hitting the studs for sure haha

Very helpful. Thanks! Think I’ll practice a bit.
Thatll be pretty easy to pull out. You need some washers on there for sure. Tapcons are never my first choice of masonry anchors. For CMU expansion anchors are better. Poured concrete, wedge anchors are just fine.
Thanks for the detail man, good vid
No Washers around those screws?
Thanks! helped out!

You're very welcome!
I would also add a large washer to the Tapcon because i strong individual could easily pull that Tapcon head from that thin metal tool box .
I'm sure you meant to say 3/16" screw and not 3/8" screw. I just used some 3/16" Tap Con screws the other day, to install a dryer vent to the exterior brick wall. Ironically. You have the same Makita hammer drill I have, when I did my install.
Which thickness would be best for kitchen cabinets on top s concrete wsll?
Wat size screws would need to hang a basketball hoop on cement . And n if i screwed to brick would it hold?
How deep do you drill the pilot hole for 3/8 x 4inch tapcon screw?
Your Milwaukee doesn’t have a hammer drill option when you rotate the shaft? Only asking because mine does and it is the same model.
I’m just diy, but found cinder block very porous and suggest NO hammer function to prevent blowing out the back when you hit the void space, like blowing out dry wall if you push a drill through it in void space.
Good tutorial. But I'd recommend a quick sealant on the hole drilledinto the toolbox (You can use paint, but I prefer to use a very thin amount of silicone #1 on the hole). Another think is to support the toolbox you mounted to the Svrew better. The screw is held well in the block, but it's not too hard to rip the toolbox off the screw. You can use a simply flush mount washer, but I will actually use a 1x4 (long enough to extend 2 inches out from the further apart screws you use) on inside of the toolbox. Then I can run my screws through predrilled holes in wood, and through toolbox and into the wall. (Basically sandwhiching the back plate of toolbox between the hardwood, and the concrete wall.) If it's a heavier toolbox, I'll use a piece of Angle or Flat steel bar instead of the wood. One cool thing about the wood (or angle iron) support is that it gives you a great place to mount some lights. The LED strip lights are dirt cheap these days. And it's just nice to have. Plus a red light coming out of that beautifully restored toolbox would look badass. Lol.
The sound of your drill slapping a random point in the back of that tool box is very very familiar. “Rrrrrrrrrright here”
When did 3/8" shrink? Last I knew of, it was bigger than 1/4". That drill is called a hammer drill. Tapcons aren't really good in cinder blocks and morter. They're best in concrete.

Is the hammer feature on the drill necessary? Can you drill the hole in concrete with a regular drill, as long as you have a concrete bit?
@Fine_i_set_the_handle
Жыл бұрын
Yes it is necessary, the bit will just melt if you don't have a hammer drill
@davidisaacson9328
5 ай бұрын
No it is not necessary. I use SDS bits(hammer/rotary drill specific) in my regular 18volt Dewalt Impact drill all the time. Downside to this, is it does take considerably longer to drill, compared to using the hammer drill.
Good job good to know 👍😉

I have tried tapcons multiple times in different masonry material, including concrete. Not once did one of those things hold or even bite when I drove it in. Pure worthless junk in my view.
@tonymanero5544

Likely the hole is too large for the screw shank if it’s not biting. Also, don’t use impact to drive screws. If not biting, wind the thinnest metal wire you have around the shank and screw in again. It should bit very well, and cut the wire after the screw is in. It’s works for any hole where it’s too big for the screw, except drywall.
3/16" not 3/8"
@4:00 screw is loose
Those aren’t 3/8. Look like 3/16
It’s a 3/16 tap con not 3/8
At first I thought you were baby-proofing
Well I watched 1 1/2 minutes and you already have all the sizes of the screws and drills wrong.
Who doesn't love reading the comments on diy, construction, etc videos? I mean every video on KZread in regards of those always have people in the comments saying there way is better, blah blah blah.. nascar, blah blah blah, Trump ,blah blah blah. I get so f-*king tired of..
