I have always let the local machinist take care of this because 1. I only needed it every once in a while and 2. I didn't understand what was going on with this process. Now that I am working from home more and the need for this comes up more frequently I am very thankful for your video. The fundamentals you explain are like a light bulb turning on. Now I wish that I had started years ago, it's so simple. Thanks again. Great tips.

I borrowed my grandfathers old tap & die set to thread metal rods for a birdhouse project but didn't know how to use the tap set or even knew what the taps were used for so thank you for the video. You made it quite easy to understand how the entire set works & even thought to add important information that others might not have thought about when working with the set.

I am a Certified Engineering Technologist (specifically, electronics engineering technologist) and this video was helpful for me :) I can appreciate the relaxed atmosphere and informative nature of this video :) I was considering buying a set (Home Hardware # 1142-230) and I've decided I will buy. The video was very nicely done, thank you.

I enjoyed the video and found it mostly useful. Thank you. However, the section where you discuss dies was confusing; I had no idea it was necessary to start the thread using a specific side of the die, and I’m not much wiser now - it would have been much more clear had you given a demonstration to back up your verbal explanation.

Sorry for that. The die's I have a taper on one side. That is the starting side. If you have Die's see if yours are like that and let me know. Thanks

KenTraining Yes, they do. But I think my set is a budget set, because it only has the one dimple and knurled set screw to hold the die in the mount, and so there was more “explanation” at that point than I knew what to do with. It’s all clear now though. Thanks for coming back to me, and no need to apologise.
