How to use a pipe threader (Ridgid 300)

How to use a pipe threader. There are different size and styles of pipe threaders (hand threaders, ponies, etc.), but this is the normal style you'll probably run into when treading pipe. I hope this helps someone, and thank ya.

Yo I’ve never seen someone put a pipe wrench on the fitting while letting the 300 lock the pipe in.. that was some good advice.. I’m gonna fit it at work.. I take it out.. throw it in a vice and tighten that thing on myself.. thanks for the tips!

Let me start off by saying rule #1 of threading pipe...NEVER EVER stop the machine while still threading the pipe. Hence the reason you had to run it back through to clean it up. Also to get proper make in on the fitting you set your dies to get 3-3 1/2 turn by hand. What’s the deal with oiling all parts of the thread your supposed to oil the top in the back where it’s cutting and it’ll run all over the threads. You got some bad habits running that machine.

I've been doing it for 17 years so I know the oiling method is fine. As for the stopping causing the bad threads that's far from the issue. I've dealt with enough machines to know that the problem was it being new, and the teeth weren't broke in yet. As for bad habits....I'm a construction worker lol of course I have bad habits lol

@@truewolf8219 yeah sorry just cuz you do it a certain way doesnt mean its the right way. go take a class on pipe threading. several things were done wrong here. you only did 1 turn in total ? you counted 1/2 turns as a full turn. you need 3.5-4 turns.

Any other apprentices in here, do NOT STOP THE MACHINE WHILE STILL TOUCHING THREADS. Pop the handle on the die back up so it's not threading THEN shut the machine off. Trust me, about 90 journeyman RIPPED ME A NEW ASSHOLE for doing it how I saw in this video. Learn from my mistake. This guy shows the wrong way.

I highly doubt "90 journeyman bout ripped you a new one". Everyone works differently. Whichever company, or union you're working with may just prefer you to operate it their way. Trust me when I say I've threaded more than my fair share over the years to know what I'm saying. But if you're company has a different preferred way then by all means make a video showing your way, and you're more than welcome to link it here.

@@truewolf8219 my bad didn't realize you were there to see. Yes i was corrected, harshly. Told I would damage the machine die as well as not get good threading on the pipe. And this was by MANY journeyman, foreman. And even rhe safety guy lol. I'm just a first year apprentice, but when EVERYONE there told me it was wrong, it's wrong. Went to watch other videos on it and they all show the same, release before stopping. Always. Everyone makes mistakes, fix your video. Be man enough to admit when you're wrong.

I'm very much man enough to admit when I'm wrong. I've also been doing the same method for 20 years now in construction with zero problems. So from my end my method works perfectly. Again though if you feel it's not the correct method you're more than welcome to make a video showing the method you were taught, and can gladly link here to show others a different perspective. Thank ya.

Totally wrong. The fitting check is 3-1/2 turns. The Teflon tape goes on first, the Teflon paste on top of the tape. Note: Union shops never use tape. They use quality thread cutting dies, and get it right the first time. This video is for incompetent plumbers, who are like “ shade tree mechanics”. Embarrassing-
