HOW TO USE A MR. STACKY OUTDOOR GARDEN PLANTER

Ойын-сауық

Vertical gardening is something that I fell in love with while learning to do indoor hydroponic gardening. I then purchased a GreenStalk and loved vertical gardening outside. By adding cattle panels to our full sized garden, it just makes sense to keep going vertical. Stackable pots and garden towers are a great way to save room if you do not have the space for full in ground gardens. They give you the ability to plant vegetables as well as beautiful garden arraingments. #mrstacky #verticalgarden #homesteading

    Very useful! I started putting mine together for strawberries I am transplanting, was halted by heavy rain, but now, instead, I will put marigolds in the bottom two tiers. Many thanks!

    You are welcome. In my third year with it. Always use it for flowers. It’s still been great!

    I just ordered my Mr. Stacky. There are five rows, four planting vessels on each row. I finally learned how to connect the base from your video. I have ordered a second one to make it more of a tower I will place on my outdoor deck when the weather warms up. Thank you for the informative video.

    Wonderful! I am glad I could be of assistance. I do love it. Just remember to use a light weight potting mix and not a soil. I did a heavier soil/dirt one time and it wasn't as good as a potting mix you would use in hanging baskets. But enjoy!

    Great video, heard many great things about the green stack vertical planter but can't get them anywhere in Australia, this might be a pretty decent alternative.

    It’s quite a bit small but you could for sure do more then one. Even buy two and combine them. I’m glad you like the video! Thanks for taking the time to comment 😀 Let me know what you find or if ya get a Stacky!

    I used landscaping fabric pieces to cover the holes in each section. Water can still go through but the dirt will not come out. We put a very tall rebar, then pvc pipe over that to go up through the center hole to keep it stacked and a 2 foot. 2inch wide riser piece under the planter to keep everything up off the ground.

    I now have a beautiful antique blue willow bird bath on a metal pole (that goes into the garden) and pushed it through the center holes for this year. Still love this planter!

    You can put a pice of cardboard or just br paper bag or coconut shredding so the water can go out but the soil stays in.

    I have had great results with my Mr. Stacky system growing Strawberries, however, do you have a recommendation for some type of greenhouse or cover so that my plants can overwinter outdoors?

    I would think some kind of an outdoor tarp may help. Or if you can bring it into a garage which would at least stop the snow may help! I was just going to take it down and start fresh next year. But just keeping stacking snow off would be good

    To what extent do you need to amend the top levels? Do nutrients wash out?

  • @GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie

    @GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie

    I haven’t done anything to alter the system. And no the nutrients won’t wash out. This next season I will be using a light weight potting MIX instead of my own dirt as it was pretty heavy and dried out. But it still grew amazing radishes! I hope this helps. Thanks for the question

    What to you do about the bottom tray keeping the bottom level damp, while the top layers dry out?

  • @GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie

    I haven’t had much of an issue with it. Every year I have it on my deck in the hot sun so it all dries out quite quickly. Don’t over fill the potting mix and that will help the water funnel thru each layer better. :)

    What kind of soil did you end up putting in the Mr. Stacky? Raised bed mix, potting soil, or a blend of topsoil and compost?

  • @GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie

    @GrowYourHomesteadWithAngie

    As I think I stated it’s a mix from the corner of my garden. It’s compared soil, potting mix dumped from hanging baskets the year before and just ground dirt. It is a bit heavier and dries faster then potting mix. But I water my deck plants like two times a day!
