    Thank you! You explained it really well! My husband died a year and a half ago and he had just got this drill press for me so I could complete a project. I'm converting an a acoustic baby grand piano to a digital one and there are several pieces I need to create that need holes placed accurately. So my husband bought the drill press and we thought he would be here to help me learn how to use it, but sadly he was diagnosed with liver cancer and was gone in 8 months. I haven't touched the piano until now. So, thank you for being so thorough and explaining things so well. I feel confident that I will able to use my drill press now and hopefully finish my piano.

    Nice video. In general, it is more safe if the workpiece is sticking out to the left. If the drill bits suddenly jams or breaks, the rotating force is gonna try to turn the whole workpiece clockwise. If it's on your right, it is more likely to hit you. That applies more when not using clamps.

    Yes. Your handle is on the right, too, so even if you're left-handed, you're more likely to have that arm in the way versus the left.

    I've done lot's of rough carpentry, but I've decided to start doing some finish carpentry. I've never used a drill press... this was a good basic intro to the tool, especially belt/tension change for speed adjustment.

    Great Video! Perhaps this tiny drill press only has one chuck-key-hole? I usually tighten the chuck with the key in more than just one of the three holes, if available. i.e. tighten with the key in one hole, then move to a second hole and tighten again. Helps make even tension around the drill bit. Cheers!

    I don't need a drill press, I only do a project like once a year. But I don't know if it's because of my anxiety or autism but I always ran away from screaming loud power tools when I was young. Even quiet ones. But now a days it's just noise and keeping it steady that makes me anxious about drills. So I'm going to pick one off marketplace, just a short one for the odd project. Silence of the motor is pretty much my buying factor

    I want to buy a drill press. The size is similar to the one in video or maybe smaller. I have a feeling that my drill bits won't fit inside. Looks like the diameter of my drill bit is bigger. What are some workarounds to be able to use bigger drill bits on small drill press?

    So how did you screw the wood to the metal plate? I just bought a drill press and thought I would use bolts ...don t have any holes other than for the bit in the plate ..just long slashes in the metal platform ....clamping smaller pieces to drill is going to be a challenge ....

  • @HouseImprovements

    @HouseImprovements

    Large washer on a wood screw, screw up through slashes in metal plate into the wood. Dirty and simple! If you want a cleaner look you can use carriage head bolts through the plywood top and into the slashes where you can use washers and nuts to secure.
