I needed this video! I just started using the cane 3 days ago. While I was instructed how to walk using the opposite side, there was no mention of cane height or NOT to press down on it. I adjusted it lower and tried walking without pushing on it and suddenly I was walking normally without the swaying side to side. Huge difference! Thank you so much for posting this.

I have had bilateral knee replacement - 3 years after spinal fusion which has left me with some nerve damage in my legs. I have practised the physiotherpay shown me to strengthen my legs as much as feasible but I still feel a bit tentative walking without some support. I progressed past using the walker - determined to walk without it. I found walking poles ( one on each side) helped as I don't lean on them for support and they dont stress my back, they just give me better stability I feel. Can you show us walking with walking poles an an option? I dont like using a single cane, it really isnt a safe feeling for me.

Thank you so much nobody explained to me that you use the cane on the opposite side of surgery. I had TKS two years ago and they did not insert the plastic disc for your ball to pivot back and forth because they felt I didn’t need it now they say I do and they have reconstruct my whole knee again. I’m in Canada have you heard of this problem before. Thank you so much I’m 76 years old and struggling after being very active.

There you go again, being the PERFECT PT! No one bother to ever teach me after TKR how to use my cane. Therefore i damaged my ankle from a screwed up gate! Geee

I would also like to learn professional opinion on using walking poles after weaning off walker onto cane, then using 1 or 2 poles as I retrain my walking gait.

I notice a lot of people seem to go from walker to cane and not crutches in between. Is there a reason for that?

I am bow legged now. Crooked. The TKR leg bows out beyond ankle. Plus ankle has a chipped bone sitting between connective tissue. My hip is messed up.

If your going down stairs-nonweightbearing you would recommend not to use a Quad cane on stairs right an use crutches instead

Why are all your videos about replace ments on one leg? At least in my country there are more bilateral replace ments than single. Once cartilage loss hits, it hits both knees. And most surgeons recommend bi lateral. In India we have the best replacement surgeons in the world. And people come from all over, to get their surgery done here. I have just had a bi lateral. Recovered extremely well.

We don’t see as many bilateral knee replacements here. I might get 2 in a year where I will treat 100 single knee replacements in the same timeframe.

It saves on 1 anesthesia!’ 2 knees!! They tried the same w/ my. Bi lateral hand surgeries! Difficult to do female monthly menestral care( tampons) hurts like hell!! Tried to. once he tried to convince me to do both, but I told the MD I needed to be able to take care of female issues. He blushed !! I did learn how to fit a cane!! AWESOME !! And already knew how to measure for crutches ! The quad cane is new for me & special. THANKS!! Take care and I Part much education to those in need! Lots of proud folks!’
