Timely video! I’m in my road trip this weekend with id.4 and obd dongle. I wish (or can’t figure out) how to fully customize my stops. It always has me stopping more frequently for shorter charges than I want. When you have to wait in line at every stop it really changes the charger hopping math

Gotcha! Not sure if this can help you now, but set your max charge limit to 80% and adjust the slider to few but long. That should increase your charge times if you want deeper charges!!!

really enjoying the channel and videos. New ID4 owner here. The one thing I'm not liking is the lack of Google Automotive(which I had in my Volvo EV) anyhow noisy the vehicle is at low speeds. Would love to see a video about comparing EV noises at low speeds since you own a second EV.

Thanks for watching! I’m very interested i. What you mean by it brain loud at slow speeds. I think it is pretty quiet. Especially compared to combustion vehicles. Are you talking about the pedestrian warning noise? That usually happens under 25 mph. In my range tests I’ve started adding noise levels! ID.4 was 65 dBs at 70mph. I was shocked at how loud the Tesla Model 3 was when I was in it. Much louder than my Kona, and wayyyy louder than the ID.4!!! I don’t have much experience with Google automotive. Sorry about that!!!

@@theaverageev Yes, It sounds like a spaceship roaming at sub 25MPH speeds, I'm not a fan. Google Automotive is basically a more integrated form of Goole OS, which allows you to use google within the car w/o the need of a cell phone and it's quite useful for estimating range and SOC at point of arrival, etc.

@@LgFaver Gotcha! Pedestrian warning noise is required by law. Early Teslas, like my brothers don’t have that. You do get used to it. I remember not liking it when I first got my Kona, and now I hardly think about. It is an important safety feature for pedestrians. Thanks again for watching and let me know if you have any other questions!

@@theaverageev for sure man, I've subscribed. Keep them videos coming.
It's too bad ABRP won't pre-condition your battery for charging. On my last road trip A Better Route Planner's suggested charging stops were a little more conservative than my EV6's built-in nav's suggestions, but I ended up entering ABRP's suggestions into the Kia system so that my battery was nice and warm on arrival for faster charging.
Thanks for the great video. Couple questions: 1. If you have a route setup in ABRP at the start of your route does it automatically adjust the route based on your driving or do you have to remap and restart the route in abrp to get a new route based on your latest driving stats? 2. Also I imagine leaving the dongle plugged in drains the 12V battery. I definitely wouldn't leave it in over night or anything but is it ok to leave in for say an hour at a stop while your car charges?

It will adjust yes! I always take mine out when I’m out of the car for an extended period of time! So you should be could to leave it in for the duration of the trip and then take it out.
Thanks for this video! Just curious - which ABRP Premium subscription do you use? Monthly or annually? I’m not sure I road trip enough to get my use out of an annual membership.

I do monthly! I cancel it when I know I won’t be road-tripping, like during the winter!

Hi ! Interesting video ! Do you think that this function works with a Toyota hybrid auris of 2015 from Europe ? I'm french, I want to buy that obd dongle especially for watching datas of my car. Have a nice day from France
@theaverageev

Hello! It is just a standard OBD, so it should work on any car regardless of fuel type! I see the Auris on the Car Scanner App. So you check out the OBD data. A Better Route Planner does not support your car though!
Dear EV fan I had a question. I bought my odb2 (maclean) and I successfully connected it following ur instructions. I gotta say that I have the free version of the abrp app so I was wondering if the obd2 actually keeps connected. U talk about a blue button that U check and uncheck. Do u talk about the top blue one (automated settings) or the Lower one (SoC departure )
@theaverageev

It is the blue button of a battery with a wifi signal. I think that's what you are talking about! The OBD will stay connected to your phone the whole trip. The only weird thing is if you were to open up car scanner pro, you would need to close car scanner pro for the OBD info to be sent to ABRP. A weird quirk I've found!
Thank you! This is great. Is it safe to leave plugged in all the time?

I would recommend to take it out when not driving the car. It could drain the 12 volt battery. That being said I accidentally left it in our ID.4 for 2 months and we had no issue. But I have heard others do the same and drain their 12volt. It’s just not worth the risk in my opinion!
Does the dongle works with any EV car ? I’m waiting for my Ioniq 6 in a couple weeks and like to know. Thanks a bunch !
@theaverageev

Ioniq 6! Nice! It works with most EVs. It should definitely work with the Ioniq 6. As long as you can access the OBD plug, then you are good! It works for both my Kona Electric and VW ID.4!
Do you always keep it plugged in or unplug it when daily driving? I would be concerned it would run down the 12v battery.

I only use it when actively driving. I do remove it after every use!
Hello. i want to use abrp with obd but when i enter car settings and live data there isint any abrp obd connection choice. there is only link generic choice. is it about abrp version ? iam using abrp with my iphone and iam sure its updated version. my abrp version number is 4.4.4 thanks for your help

Hmm. My only immediate thought is that you connected to the OBD outside of the app? If you did. Forget the device and then open ABRP and you should see it! Let me know if that works!
So this ridecwas without subscription? Is there voice directions too? Ty
@theaverageev

I’m going to be honest it has been so long I don’t recall what the functionality of Car Scanner Pro is without a subscription. For ABRP you can use it without subscription, but it won’t pull data from the OBDII without a subscription. If you are doing road-trips and want to maximize efficiency, it is worth every penny. You could certainly cancel it after your road-trip is over.
I noticed that you are working with iPhone carplay. I know you said that it also works with Android. But have you heard from others about how well it does work with Android Auto, since that is what I have and must use? I hope others will chip in here with their experiences to help me decide whether to move forward.
