This video is a pearl. You're an amazing teacher.
you really are a fantastic teacher! Clear and easy for understanding!
You are a gift to the art community, and KZread. This is a great practice, and i wish some one taught me something like this sooner. Whether it's a charcoal, or graphite pencil, this helped me figure out what is the darkest the choice of media can get, and then work form there to create the value scale. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! This is gold. I was looking for an explantion of this method and most artbooks and youtbue instructors don't explain this simplified into two values method. Many thanks from Mexico
There's so many of us learning for the first time WHY to do these geometry practices. Whilst I'm happy to at last start learning, it shows art teaching in schools everywhere are doing children a great disservice.

On the noses video after You got in the basic outline and put down several different values of darks and lights You go over all the edges with a pencil (in a holder). thank you for the tutorial. it's really helpful and high quality. may I ask for a tutorial how to deal with dim light? I love bright and distincted shadow but dim light also bring a soft emotional mood. I want to create that mood but I often make it look dirty. :(

What type of compressed charcoal pencil lays down looking like it contains no filler? I've never seen a charcoal pencil lay so smooth

This is really a PRECIOUS tutorial and very helpful, i can't find it anywhere except here.......I don't think that we need to work with 7 values step no?? it's just waste of time since we have 9 and 5 values?? do you agree with that ?? Thank you Sir

Formidable........i saw in many books of arts and sites they represent 5 values in other way 5 Cast shadow- 4 form shadow- 3 core shadow- 2 halftones and 1 for light How far this can be true?? for my part i consider this is not logic and this is why i search for your unique tutorial in whole internet, i trust your method and i will work with it.

Each artist has the own vision for value system.
I'm new to values should I start with graphite or charcoal?
@uunz4075
4 жыл бұрын
You can do this exercise with either one! I used a 2B pencil for starters as its less messy, but I think the real beauty of this exercise is that it shows that you should first find the darkest dark of the media you choose. Once you know the darkest dark, you are less likely to second guess if you think you can go any darker, and then build hand muscle memory on how much pressure to go extreme dark, or light. Good luck and have fun! I wish I saw this type of exercise way earlier in my art journey.
JESUS WHAT KIND OF PENCIL IS THAT?! IT'S SO WEIRD BUT I WANT IT!

I don’t mind that there is no verbal instruction as watching the magic unfold is usually enough, however could you possibly explain some terms for beginners - for example ‘refine and lock with HB pencil’ and ‘edge control’ as not every member knows these unless you have a basics course that I haven’t been able to find yet?
@zinlimart
4 жыл бұрын
‘lock with HB pencil’ : Vine charcoal is easily erased. So, HB pencil is used to hold the edge's positions. ‘edge control’ : blending, refining, detailing, softening, sharpening around edges. Thanks for watching.
