I think about the eyes that they are the mirror of the soul. These drawings are beautiful, and charcoal is the best artistic medium for them.

I still don’t think I really understand how to draw an eye like this after watching but gosh it’s so beautiful i think I could watch you draw for hours. It’s like first it looks like a smudge on the paper and then 2 minutes later it’s a hyper realistic looking eye and I’m very confused on how you’re doing that haha

What I love is how, its scratchy line, finger smudge, sharp line, random line, colour in a bit, uses finger to remove charcoal, all this time it looks like someone dropped charcoal on the paper and than, one highlight later, boom, it's a fucking eye. I love it.

gr8 video, what i like most is y offering the thinking process of drawing the form in simple shapes to define the planes of the eye, and didn't know that the pupil of the eye in 3/4 view doesn't lie on the exact center of the iris due the perspective foreshortening ,thx what i really want to learn most as an art student is how the core shadow terminates over the complex interlocked form based of the sphere shading concept which every artist knows " connected form shadow line over the whole form or not" sometimes i can't tell if the shadow shape itself interfering with the form shadow and i can't see where form shadow terminates, is there any book should i read to understand that?

The face is the mirror of the mind, the eyes of people reflect the desires of their heart. I love this saying because it has so much in common with portrait art. Good looks tend to fade out but the mind never does, it only grows. That's why good portrait art at all times needs to capture the soul of the subject. And that's simply often through the eyes, the eyes of people reflect the desires of their heart. Eyes in artworks have something special, they often times say more then words can. Eyes are very similar to drawings in that regard, if you can say it in words there's no need to draw it... Eyes in artworks have something special. I guess art is a reflection of what we allow ourselves to see... Much encouragement from a fellow creative Lim.

For an Impressionist, light is EVERYTHING! As long as the light is set up correctly, the portrait is half done! The rest, of course, needs high skills which are not possible for a commoner to learn.

i mostly like the way are, the intro to the technique is admittedly frustrating to watch but it forces the viewer to think about what he's trying to construct without worrying about our individual conceptions of drawing. Then he generally explains the technique on the second go. My only critiques would be to let us know what to focus on in the "refine detail" sections and add the captions to the other examples.
