Very informative. I have 2024 tacoma on order. It will be my first ever truck purchase. What’s the best drive mode for light to heavy rainfall, snow, or sleet? Thanks in advance. Do I just keep it in 2H unless I’m off road? 🧐🤔

Thanks! This is my first truck too. In rainfall, sleet, and light snow you'll want to stick with 2H. Toyota's vehicle stability control (VSC) is great for those situations. VCS is always on by default. 4WD is great for snow, but only if it's covering the road thick enough that the tires will slide relatively easily. This is because you need the wheels to have some ability to slide during turns to prevent damage to the system.

I notice you're in Arizona, like me, which would you recommend using in monsoon storms in summer? I've yet to use my 4H or 4L gears yet.

  • @trdtakeover

Only if you're in gravel or dirt. Do not use it if you're on asphalt. Your traction control and vehicle stability control will be good for monsoons, and those systems are on by default.

@@trdtakeover OK so 4H or 4L in the gravel or dirt?

  • @trdtakeover

Almost always 4H. 4L changes your gearing which you don't need is most situations. An example of when you might need 4L is going up/down a very steep muddy incline or when stuck in deep sand.

Iv owned 3 tundra, 2 Tacoma’s and 3 4Runners since 2005. Nothing has changed. I’d be surprised if the card explaining all of this isn’t on the Sun visor like it has been for at least 20 years.
