Hey I have this cage on my FX3 and I absolutely love it! Glad to see someone else trying out someone besides small rig and tilta! Great Video!
I have rigged my FX3 with the Kondor Blue half cage. Its built in arca swiss makes it easy when taking it from my gimble to a tripod or monopod. I also have the Kondor Blue baseplate that allows me to mount the rig quickly and plug the kit into a v-mount battery.
The Sony ECm-XM1 sounds really nice. We regularly use it as on camera mic for our Panasonic AG-CX10 if we interview some eyewitnesses on the go. The sound quality is great and it's a practical run and gun setup, when you don't have the time to get the AVX handmic out of your camera bag and connecting it to the receiver.
Great video guys! I use the Anton Bauer Battery Baseplate, Sigma 24-70, KondorBlue magic arm with Atomos Ninja V off the back of the top handle.
Great video with lots of practical info.
Mate, thanks monstrously much for this delightful, helpful video. Video excellence! Happy new subscriber here. Cheers from the States! 🇺🇸💛🇬🇧
Amazing, informative video. Helped a lot
Your hair is fantastic! But still haven't seen a cage/rig solution for the fx3 which temps me. I want to build the camera out backwards, into a cube like form factor keeping everything in line with the body.
I’ve been absolutely loving my FX3, it’s a brilliant camera for professional video work, really is amazing. The 8Sinn full cage is great as it allows to still use the original Sony XLR top handle, which is one of the best features of the FX3 getting professional audio and proper controls. Great job on the video, greetings. - Filipe

Tilta allows this too by removing the NATO rail across the top. You can easily work around this by using iFootage Spidercrabs or other quick release gear to move stuff around. I use a combination of smallrig cold shoes and whatnot to move my Rode and Ninja up to the OEM handle. ;)
Thank you- great video.
I ordered the tilta cage system, after watching this I'm sure I'll have the same balancing issues with the cage and Sigma lens. 8sinn. Cage looks awesome as well, I may need to switch it.
Excellent fellas, thanks.
The SmallRig Half Cage mentioned here, and now available, is pretty much a must for the FX3.
Super useful !
Great review!
Thank you for your overview and great tips! I am wondering if you have any tips to use a Vario ND and a Mattebox whilst still keeping the setup small? Intended use on a ronin rs or motorised slider. Also wandering what 15mm rod system you recommend to mount a focus motor. Tks in advance! Keep it up with your great videos !
What’s a good resource to learn more about cages and thread sizes and whatnot? I get overwhelmed trying to figure out how to put together a good rig because I don’t know what will work and what won’t 😅
How do you make those incredible stickers to have the equipment label and organize , please make a tutorial!!
Thanks for this video!!! Doubt about Anton Bauer Battery, does it really work? In this time of use, how has your experience been in real life? Another question, you have to remove the battery cover, right? It is easy?
I am concerned about the possibility of play between the lens mount and the camera because I do not have room to use a lens support system with my current rig. I primarily use the Sony 24-105 f4 lens, but might also use my Sony G-master 24mm 2.8 lens on as well. I am using the Tilta full cage system with a small rig matte-box system, as well as the Nucleus-M full kit (2 motors mounted), powered by a 160-watts hour battery, which also powers the Atomos Ninja 5-plus monitor. I currently have it set up for tripod and hand-carry mode. From the handgrips, which I attached with rosette mounts, I can control the zoom and follow-focus using my index fingers on either handle. I have 10-inch rods attached, but I am wondering if I should go with a 15-inch rod to add some more room. What do you think?
Would like a video with better recommendations for audio. I stay away from mics with 3.5 plugs. Looking at the Rode NTG5 but concerned with handling noise when it’s in the audio handle. What’s your take? Also it should be a relatively light mic as keeping weight and size down is important for me. I’m also looking at the ECM-VG1 microphone from Sony but unsure about its quality. Thank you

Hey... would it please be possible to do a similar video on how to rig the fx6 as well?
Fx3 is a small camera, having all this accessories is a no sense for me. I would be better to buy a Fx6 directly. thanks for your vidéo !
Nice top handle.
This is a big rig if you want to record audio too, for me the only thing i need is a nano rail srew’d into the top side of the FX 3 to attach the Atmos Ninja securely with a small rig connection. I am also audio recording engineer, and even through the mic preamps on the FX 3 are ok, they are nothing compared to BAE 1032, 64, or Heritage audio brit recording strip

So you are comparing a run&gun XLR module to a $3.5K studio mic preamp and EQ module? You are funny.
Nice video:) If ecm-xm1 is available, is it the best at the price as xlr shotgunMic for fx3?
It seems the audio from input 3 is not recorded the same as other stereo inputs. I plug in two wireless Gos into it with a splitter but in post I can’t seem to split them. Any ideas? Or do I just get the new Røde Wireless Go 2. I just want to edit each channel separately.maybe I should just plug into the regular audio input in the body?
fx3 with full range of GM lens. Only way to go.
Thank u 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Hey, you mentioned that not all lenses are compatible with the 8Sinn Cage. Do you have a list for that? Would the Sony GM 34 1.4 fit without problems or the Sigma 35 1.4?
So the Anton Bauer plate definitely works with the FX3?
I heard that dummy batteries tend to fry the camera does that battery system have a voltage regulator ?
When you are using the Anton Bauer base, are you using a dummy battery internally or powering the camera via USBA-USBC and having the internal battery as a reserve?

Does that 8sinn cage have more than one mounting point to the camera body? Does it attach to any of the side 1/4" threads in addition to the one on the bottom?
If you plug 2 sennheiser AVX lavs into the XLR ports and then the Rode Wireless go 2 into the 3.5 jack on the camera is it possible to run 4 wireless lav mics that all record internally?

If you're going to build out an FX3 for a shoulder rig and you don't own one already, buy a FX6.
@joshuakingortiz341

Obvious answer is that you can always strip back down if you want, which you wouldn't be able to do with the FX6. It gives you the flexibility of rigging up or stripping down.
The only way to UPGRADE the FX3 is to wait for a newer model.
Can we talk about how the A7SIII/FX3/FX6 aren't true 4k cameras? 12mil photosites in a bayer config is barely 3mil actual pixels (assuming it's RGGB, but 2.07K in resolution at best). Upres to UHD and call it 4k and you can see why people are getting mistakenly excited over the A1. It's not doing 4k better, that's just how actual 4k is supposed to look. Sony's smoke and mirrors creates some creative efficiencies, but we're being mis-sold lower spec cameras.

@@JonPais I mean there's no need to be derogatory to try and sway a point. I'm by no means saying any of the cameras I mentioned are 'better or worse'. Im more getting at Sony's lack of transparency (not just in their marketing but even their technical specifications) when it comes to what people are actually buying. While even at a 48million photosite count, the diodes are arranged in a way that doesn't actually acquire a higher optical resolution (in terms of a minute of angle change in perceptible information of a given scene.) which is why the camera is listed as 12mp 'effective' sensor. The diode config is very important information to have and the discovery of the quad layout only confirms what I was trying to figure out. Why would Sony neuter a 48million photosite sensor? Well if you have four separate diodes grouped closely together gathering the same (roughly) spatial detail for a given channel you can use that data to verify the other diode's data, aggregating to achieve a much 'cleaner' signal- which, in turn, massively improves the noise floor of the video signal the sensor is able to generate (in simple terms: makes it 'better at low-light scenes'). However, this is at the expense of not using those extra diodes to record a finer interval of spatial information, which an RGGB config would do compared to an RRRR,GGGG,BBBB config- though that more standard arrangement would not come with the same noise floor benefit, so i can see why Sony did what they did. That is why the camera is sold as a 12mp camera, not a 48mp camera (as 'pixels' are the product of many more photosites/diodes, pixels don't account for the number of actual diodes on the sensor, because array config is important). Even with the likes of the Alexa line, ARRI had to develop the newest gen of LF sensors to meet the threshold of 4k at the Aquisition level (spatial/optical resolution), not just the video file level (video file dimension). So while I was off in suspecting it had a 12million photosite sensor in a classic RGGB arrangement (which does seem very low), it technically still is once you aggregate the 4 photosite clusters as the 'groups'' are then arranged in the normal bayer pattern. Which, in terms of actual perceptual resolution gathered, is not true 4K (as in, the maximum resolution achievable in those dimensions). Which is why there are cameras that also produce the same '4k' files, yet appear to resolve more detail. 🤷
@_burd
Жыл бұрын
@@JonPais You’re welcome to paste my comment into a search engine to check. But my point still stands that the sensor collects a little under half the optical resolution potential of a true 4K (in pixel dimension) file

@@JonPais Not entirely sure why you're being so toxic with the personal affronts but to be fair, you replied to my post. Accusing me of being uninformed and misunderstanding, to which I took the time to explain in detail my point that this camera is not true 4K aquisition in it's current sensor configuration. I can go further and pull academic research by ASC DoPs into the conversation, but it seems you just want to have an armchair whine at someone who's just genuinely trying to figure out what's going on under the hood of this group of cameras. Good luck.
I really dont know why someone would buy a fx3 if you need a cage anyway. Also the no evf thing is bad. It seems the s3 is the better option as the fx lacks real cinema cam features like waveforms.
@matiia

From my understanding, the A7S3 doesn't have waveforms either? The reason I would buy the FX3 over the A7S3 is because I would need to buy the XLR adapter, so the FX3 comes in cheaper overall, but I am sacrificing the EVF.
