I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3531 bought 3 months ago as a cheap 2nd laptop. It says it only accepts a 4GB DIMM module. "CONFIGURATIONS SUPPORTED: 4GB" "DD3L" Could it be that it actually maxes out at only 4GB? It's horribly slow!

+videogameobsession Dell says it can only handle 4GB, but if you use the 8GB RAM module I mention in the description below the video, it will work fine. I think Dell would rather that you buy a more expensive laptop instead to get 8GB.

It only has one RAM socket, so you'll need to use a single 8GB RAM module rather than two 4GB modules. In the description below the video, I put a link to an 8GB RAM module that will work in this computer.

+Absolute Zero Yes, it can be upgraded to 8GB. There is only one RAM slot, so you will have to replace the 4GB module with an 8GB module. Every laptop model is different, so no the RAM module is not compatible with all Dell laptops. In the description below the video, I put a link to a RAM module that is known to work in this laptop.

+Absolute Zero Not just any RAM will work - you need to use a specific type. Did you use the type of RAM I linked to in the description below the video? If you did use the correct type, then I suggest removing the RAM and re-inserting it. Perhaps it wasn't fully seated in the slot. If that doesn't work, put your old RAM back in as a sanity check. Assuming that works, then the new module is bad. Were you careful to only touch it on the edges as I mentioned in the video? RAM modules can be damaged by static electricity. Luckily Amazon has a good return policy.

ahh thanx i just placed it wrong..

I have searched all over the net trying to find the type of ram, to upgrade this slow inspiron i3531, and I can't find it. The specification I found, said that 4 gb's was the max.. Hate this laptop!
