Thank you for this - really appreciated. Out of interest on the market is there a lot of variation on the disk speeds? I'm wondering if you could also get a much faster SSD as an added benefit of changing? Thanks again and wish you all the best on your KZread journey. Very clean / professional upload!

@@RemofRenaissance Great questions, yeah you would see some benefits in things loading slightly faster and files transfer quicker. I was mainly shopping for price over performance. You will need to get from a reputable manufacture that can guarantee specs or go off of third party sellers descriptions and test the speed once you install the drive.

@@HowToWojo thank you for this! I’m actually based in the UK but have been looking at deals. I’m debating if I want to go with a Pro 8 instead and wether I can get away with 8GB ram. No gaming for me but loads of spreadsheet analysis and reporting packages like Power BI so running that conundrum on what to do over and over again in my head. Pro 8 is around $950 in UK inclusive of Tax and sometimes with a keyboard but…. 8GB RAM 😐

Might I add, you will need the Microsoft case that the SSD sit in. Due to the fact that the T6 screw will not line up quite right. It will be off center just so slightly. Removing the case is easy and will help with securing the SSD down with the T6 screw. Otherwise, vibration can cause the SSD to move or malfunction.

Thanks for letting everyone know about this. I noticed this in the install that it moved slightly just forgot to mention it in the video. I didn't remove the case from mine since I was going to just resell the SSD on ebay.

Can you please show or explain to me how to remove the Microsoft case.
On mine my overall local disc storage increase, but on all the other things like installed apps and system and reserved it says I can only use 52.4 gb for reach categories. Even though I upgraded to 2t and my local disc says 1.82 Tb.
hey so I'm trying to put my 2T into another computer but it won't let me format my card. what do I do? [HELP]
Do you have to use the recovery? Can you reinstall using the download from the Media Creation Tool? I want to reinstall it with Win 11 Pro.
I can´t enter to recovery, I did all the stuff on the video but it dont recognize me the USB and I can´t boot in usb
Rather crucial to mention that you MUST prepare your USB drive FIRST!!!

Hi just wondering can I create the recovery USB for surface pro 9 on a PC? My surface pro 9 has a blank Ssd in it. Original was already sold.
Does anyone know if it works on surface pro 8? Thanks!
I have a question regarding the recovery image download, so I downloaded it from Microsoft's website for my Surface Pro X, after I extract it, I can see the sources file has an X by it instead of a check mark, is this an issue?
@HowToWojo

Not super familiar with recovery process for windows unfortunately. If you found a solution please comment below so we can share with anyone else with the same issue. :)
Why wouldn't I want to just create a recovery drive from the local Surface Pro 9 itself, rather than do the download and extract files?
The problem is that you are putting the thermal pad on the wrong side. The surface is designed to heatsink the SSD on the bottom, which is why Microsoft uses a completely enclosed SSD.
Holy shit... for some reason it didn't even occur to me that you might be able to upgrade the ssd on the SP9😂 I'm a pretty technical dude but for some reason i just assumed that this time you get what you get Thank you so much lmao

Thanks for your comment. I went on Ebay and searched 2230 M.2 ssd. A few sellers selling them, just find the best priced one and make sure that they have a 30 day return if anything goes wrong.

Microsoft does sell these M.2 SSD's but they do charge more than average price for the ssd that they sell. I would recommend doing some research online on some top performers so you can get the most bang for your buck.

I would format the USB drive with the windows software and try to see if it will boot from it. If not then put in the old storage drive and attempt to follow the same process for upgrade and if it works on old device its possible you have a faulty drive.

@@HowToWojo Thanks you very much for your time, blessings.
I'm wondering why Surface Pro 9 is running SSD on PCIe 3.0. According to specs both device and drive are PCIe 4.0 compatible. I wanted to upgrade my drive with WD SN770M SSD(which has 5150MB/s and 4900MB/s read/write speed). It seems pointless when Pro 9 is running SSD in a mode that is limited to 4GB/s(limit for PCIe 3.0 x4). Some YT tutorials for this upgrade include speed tests done after replacement and authors are dissapointed with results. I suspect it is rather a problem with PCIe 3.0 limit than the drive itself.

i wish they put this modular on the next surface go 4
@HowToWojo
Жыл бұрын
Yeah would be nice, but I don't think that they would do that since this is mainly a "Pro" feature.
Does this void the warranty? If I had to send the device in to Microsoft for repair they would either not replace it or they would send me back a device with the original size SSD in the case of a swap?
@HowToWojo
Жыл бұрын
As far as I am aware it is possible that they may say the issue is related to the upgrade that you did. So before you send them the machine I would install the stock SSD and see if you still have same issue and then send the device to them with the original SSD. Incase they replace the device you don't lose out on the upgrade that you did. The way I see it is if they give you the ability to upgrade it why would they deny your warranty.

As much as I like the easy SSD upgradability, I'm not sure about having the OS installed in that one SSD. I don't mind having a soldered SSD for the OS and leave the rear slot empty for additional self upgrade.
