What is your favourite garment or materials to upcycle with!? Let us all know in a comment down below! 👇🏻
The first upcycle I remember making and using is a pair of beige espadrilles I bought new, and after awhile they ended up stained, so I painted them sky blue and painted a sunburst over the top of each. I loved those shoes. I wore them at least all through high school. This was during the early disco era. I hated disco.
My favorite things to upcycle are thrifted men's shirts. It is easy to find xxl sizes in cotton and linen. These provide lots of cloth to work with. I make dresses and aprons. I always sewed with patterns and new fabric, but now I really love the creativity of upcycling. Great video! Thanks!

This is my favorite as well. Here in the US, there are LOADS of men’s dress shirts at the thrift store because most workplaces are now business casual or casual.
Ayyy! Love the shoutout to Blueprint DIY! ❤ Very nice upcycling guidance as well, this beginner thanks you!!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE DIY Blueprint. She is brilliant and her up-fashions are always clever and manageable. I love her channel, too. By The Way, I am new to your channel. I love your creativity and energy. I've been sewing for over 50 years and I am still learning. Thank you for making this such fun!

Aw... thank you! 😍 I love that with sewing that no matter if you sewn for over 25 years like me, or over 50 years like you, you are still learning!
I used to paint makeup bags and purses when I was in highschool I remember painting a twilight purse because I was obsessed with twilight

That’s such a fun idea! 🤩 (I was very into painting with fabric paint myself in high school.)
I can't resist a good flannel shirt. Snuggly! But my favourite item I've ever upcycled is a not so waterproof coat, that I turned into a dog coat. Fits much better than any shop bought coat, and cost me about £3 because I already had most of the supplies. Annoyed my dog with lots of fitting session, though 😂

Flannels are indeed great for upcycling! Also, I got some funny pictures in my head now imagining your dog coat fit sessions! 😅😝

Imagine a dog expecting a walk, but getting newspaper draped over it instead, and trying to draw a half coat shape while being dragged around the floor. It took me a week to make, by the time we got to the hook and loop tape for final fitting she was completely over it and not interested in walking because she knew it mostly wasn't a walk I was offering. But she loves it now, happily!

She truly is! I am also so inspired by her 🥰
I like woven cottons the best. When I am shopping for used garments, I always choose natural fibers.

@@missmatti I wanted to let you know it was a huge success thank you
You can use pure acetone to get off vinyl logos... Haven't tried it but it makes sense. I bought some in case I found something that I wanted to do it too. I'll try it and update this haha

It totally makes sense! I wonder if I have anything in my upcycle pile with a vinyl logo I can try it out on... 🤔 You have to report back once you tried it out! 😄
You also need to learn online how to take out a garment to make it larger or how to take in a garment to make it smaller and how to hem a garment. You can learn how to do all this online. You also should learn how to make your own fabric paint to paint over stains on a garment (also try drawing something over stains with permanent markers to cover up a stain after you disinfect the stain with clear hand sanitizer). You can also embroider over those stains to cover them up and you can learn how to do everything I just mentioned online.

I consider myself beginner-intermediate level at hand sewing, and though I'm familiar with machine sewing, I don't have a sewing machine. I also have very little idea of my style tastes. I would love to start upcycling both from my own wardrobe and thrifted pieces but I have no idea where to start!

You can do it! I would look at the stuff you already own and head to the thrift store. Is there anything that inspires you a bit extra? If you still are stuck I would look for upcycling inspiration on Pinterest. Good luck!
Mine would be jeans, and t-shirts.
